Maybe I will then. depending on limitations I have in Bio-engineering. Organic weapons and armor, chemical warfare and such. Including genetic manipulation and improvement.

If I am able to accomplish these things, count me in. I'll make a small and very very specialist Organization (Key word Organization, not nation)
You will be able to research all of that during the course of the game, yes, and even whackier stuff if you wanted to. But all factions will look pretty much the same in terms of technology in the beginning. Think of it like the affinities in Civ Beyond Earth - you all start out with the same techs, but you all branch out in your own ways and get more and more different as the game moves on.

Keep calm and move along.

Actually looking at what is available to your nations. I can't have Organic weapons yet, but Bio armor? Is definitely not out of the question for me. Especially since I am going to be very very small.

Disclaimer, my Bio armor is just fairly advanced standard armor for now. my Better version will require research and only be for my special forces.

Okay I am claiming territory around saturn for my group. Mostly cause I want Titan as my main station.

Sorry, everyone starts with the same. I'm actually thinking of implementing something of a tech web, and there are several other technologies you'd need for bio-armour.

Also, just so we're clear, no one will control the entirety of any planet in the start, so you're going to have neighbours.

Keep calm and move along.

A tech web is actualy a great idea, as long as we can suggest any technologies that you missed.

As for my starting territory, as was thinking about Charon and pluto, this will make me the dominant power in the Kuiper belt, along with a few gas giant stations.

Just remember that you'll have far to pretty much everything there. Travelling from Mercury to Pluto in a straight line takes about two weeks with the tech available now, so you wouldn't be able to make any fast responses by your gas giant stations.

Also, you'll still have neighbours even on Pluto and Charon.

Keep calm and move along.

That makes no sense what so ever. SO you have big ass armored suits.... but I can't have light bio armor? I don't think I will be joining this at that rate. Since my group isn't a nation, its a company. But thats fine. ALready in plenty of other RPs anyways. Probably shouldn't join another.

Nothing here is set in stone, if you have a problem we can work something out instead of just immediately throwing everything out the window. What exactly were you planning to play as?

A company(5-10 million max population). Pharmaceauticals and Genetic-Engineering Firm and Think-Tank(quite literally once you see what the leaders are).

Meaning, one the ability to manipulate genetics, grow organs, roid people up without serious consequences, gene-therapy and enhancement need to be all the basics available to me. This sets up the basis for what comes later. Historically I will be the largest supplier of medicine and other such commodities in the solar system, so trade connections with a lot of people, and none of the restrictions of government oversight.

Now since I can't have Bio-armor, I do want a small elite force of genetically enhanced commandos(Which will later become something more my taste after some research). Weapons will just be the best stuff available at current tech level and armor till I can replace it with what I want.

If I can't have what I requested, I won't join. Simple. I don't want to start from absolute scratch.

So you trade size and overall power in exchange for jumping ahead everyone else slightly in technology?

Not so sure. On one hand it seems a pretty fair trade. On the other hand, making an exception in the rules is the first step to the dismantling of them. I guess it'll be up to the others who want to join this game.

Keep calm and move along.

While I'm not playing, I personally dont see a problem with it. Everyone needs a little leeway when making their people... or else you might as well just make a single Empire sheet then have everyone diverge from that as the game goes on.

As long as the person doesn't just jump forward 50 years from the start. Give them a range of stuff to specialize in from the start. 3 Skill points if you will.

I'm okay with it. Just so long as I retain my marine/special forces edge.

Yes, I realize Necross's genetically-engineered commando's will be physically superior to mine, but I call superiority in training.

Alright Necros, I supposed there's no harm in it. I'll even give you a nudge in the right direction by allowing you to start with bio-armour 40% researched. Note, though, that this armour will be 1st generation, and gives slightly inferiority protection in exchange for slightly higher mobility.

Now if I can just figure out how the research system will work...

Keep calm and move along.

I don't know this is a much smaller force than yours. More resources can go into them.

But You can pretend that your training will matter for now. :P Cause When they reach to Biological Enhanced point that I want them too, they will have preternatural ability.

But for now yeah these are just guys with enhanced strength, durability and reflexes.

As for my standard forces, they are basic to say the least, mainly meant as a police force and to secure Company assets. My other guys will be for more underhanded, and sometimes straightforward conflicts.

I've been thinking of that tech web idea for this game, and I thought maybe we could make something based off the one found in Civilization Beyond Earth. It does have the fundamentals for possible future techs, and I think it would be pretty easy to alter and expand it after our own liking.

Spoiler for For reference:

In terms of organization, think of a tech tree, instead of a web. Easier to map out research that way. Think of what we'll start with, then work out how each major item can be researched and upgraded. It's even possible to give Necross his organic/genetic tech, just make it so it's on par with everyone else's technological starting position.

Examples:

Starting Ship Tech: Fusion Reactor, Coilgun, Ballistic Missiles, Basic Armour (Titanium), Torpedoes.

Upgrades: Advanced Fusion Reactor (reduced travelling time), Heavy Coilgun, Railgun, Advanced BM (increased range, damage, etc.), Basic Lasers (point defence), Pulse Cannon (ballistic/energy), Heavy Armour (Titanium+), Advanced Torpedoes (increased range, damage, tracking etc.)

There could also be overlap, such as the Pulse Cannon, which would be overlapped with kinetic and energy weapon research.

Now you don't want it to be too complicated, try to keep each tree as unique as possible, like keeping the ship tech research strictly to ships. Some overlap between trees is possible, even likely, but you want to keep that to a minimum for simplicity.

I want everyone to be as free as possible to shape their empire how they want, which is why I like the idea of a tech web rather than a tree. I took the idea mainly from Beyond Earth, where your choice of path in the web plays a huge role in the shaping of your nation, and I also want an idea similar to that of Affinities in beyond Earth, though less set in stone. Necross, for example, has seemingly decided to invest in biological tech. This will start off with bio-armour and biological enhancements, but as the game goes on, he could get real living armour and weapons, biologically engineer creatures serving as troops of different kinds, his stations turning into jungle-like utopias populated by citizens who can alter their body practically on a whim. Hell, he could get a giant goddamn crab or beetle to serve as a tank if he wanted, the imagination is the only limit.
This is why I want a web, because we can all take dramatically different paths in how we will look, feel and play. It provides a much greater chance for diversity in the game.

Keep calm and move along.

Fair enough, but that is going to be difficult to implement, especially in a text game.

I still have to finish up the Space battle Rules for Frontier.

After that I can finish up my space nation sheet.
