That board is a fine one, assuming you do not want to overclock to extreme levels. I would look at the Gigabyte UD4, or the P8P67 Pro/Deluxe if you are more of an overclocker. Again, that board will work fine, and I happen to be partial to ASUS boards because my Deluxe is so awesome. :teehee:

I read reviews that say this board works better for OCing but yeah.

Le new parthave been ordered.
Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131702&Tpk=asus%20sabertooth%20p67

Proc: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115070&Tpk=intel%20core%20i7-2600k%20sandy%20bridge
(was gonna go for a hex core but they were entirely to pricey)
Ram: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233144&cm_re=corsair_vengeance_ddr3_1600-_-20-233-144-_-Product (2 sets so 16gb total)
And a new disk drive. ;D

Good stuff! Except for the CL 9 RAM  :P Upgrading/building new rigs is always an exciting undertaking.

Sabertooth = :(  You're going to want to take that "thermal armor" off...  It turns out that it actually makes the motherboard run a lot hotter.

Other than that, it's a nice setup!

You should be able to get 4.0 ghz pretty easily on the stock cooler, but you really want to buy a better cooler if you actually want to overclock...  A 2600k can push 5.0 ghz on air with the right cooling.

I have my Zalman, but I forgot the adapter for this new mobo.

I'm thinking of building my new desktop with exactly that processor.

What are the good mobos to that go well with the Core i7 2600K ?

Unless it's a new one it won't really do too well with a newer chip.

@ Foxdonut: Sweffy is right on with his comment about cooling. I was at 4.7 stable with my Hyper 212+, and I bet if I had tried I could have gotten 5. I booted at 5 but it was not stable running SuperPi.

@mikethor007: If you are not opposed to paying $225 for a board, the ASUS P8P67 Deluxe is great. I have nothing bad to say about this board, and this is the third one I have owned (the problems were with Intel and NewEgg, not ASUS :-P ). If you are looking for a bit less expensive board, try the Gigabyte UD4 or the ASUS Pro.

UD4 is a good option. Though I was considering the UD7 due to it having two SLI slots that operate at x16.

I went with the Sabertooth. We'll see how it works. Should do well from what I've read.

@mikethro007: Yes, if you have the extra $$ definitely go for the UD7. An alternate option would be the ASUS Maximus IV Extreme, but 3x SLI slots is unnecessary  ::)

@Foxdonut: I think the Sabertooth will be a great board for what you want to do. I've heard good things about it, and I personally like the look and feel of the sweet "thermal armor."

Too bad the "Thermal Armor" actually makes it more likely to overheat... :P

The UD4 and the UD7 are good mobos, the P8P67 Pro/Deluxe is good, the Maximus IV Extreme is very good...  The higher end MSI board (I think it's either the GD70 or the GD80) is good, and the Sapphire Pure Black mobo is good.

*takes notes*

Didn't check the MSI or the Sapphire ones yet, but the ones from Gigabyte and Asus are available here.

And I'll likely need a 1k PSU..or not... gotta check how much watts a desktop would need with two 580s.

It's not a "we'll see" type of thing...  It's been confirmed by everyone who bothered to take it off... ;)
