Survivors of the IV
« on: May 25, 2012, 09:14:34 PM »
9:12 AM, 25:th of May, somewhere in the wilderness east of Moscow.

Nikolai's eyes shot open and he sat straight up, reaching for his baseball bat. He then saw that he was in a warm bed inside a cabin. Then he remembered: the narrow escape from Moscow last night. All he remembered from that night was running through the streets while hearing the screams of people being eaten alive by those...things. Then he had ran up the highway and into the forest, not stopping for most of the night. It took a while, but he finally found his hunting cabin.

He made a light smile. He had gotten some strange looks from other hunters when they saw him building his cabin on a platform 10 feet up in the air on the top of a high, steep hill. But Nikolai had figured, why not? It gave a good view, and there would be a lesser chance of getting animals into his home. He suddenly felt extremely thankful to himself he had decided to do that, and to add a rope ladder up to it which he could pull up. Now he was all by himself in the middle of the woods, lying in a warm bed. Safe.

He got up from the bed and looked around. The cabin had two rooms: the main room and a bedroom. On the walls hung trophies of deer and buck, summing up to a total of 23 heads. The cabin was formed in a perfect square with his bedroom placed in the inner left corner from the door. The distance wall-to wall in the cabin was sixteen meters, so it was no small cabin. In the middle of the main room stood a large, round table on a thick green and red rug, with six chairs around it, which were used in the poker nights with his friends. In the inner right corner from the door was the kitchen. It had the normal things you would find in a kitchen - a stove, a fridge, a sink and a toaster. It seemed all power was out, though. Must have been from the chaos last night. There were a total of five windows on the cabin, the largest one placed next to the door.

Nikolai got up on his feet and walked over to the gun cabinet that stood by the wall right next to his bed. "Time to make some use out of this baby."he said with a smile, picking out a fine-looking sniper rifle that his father had given to him with a smile. He then took a small ammunition box, only to notice it was very light, and he froze. He quickly took the box and looked inside it, only to find it empty. Not one round left. "No...no, no no..."he said as he dropped the box and the rifle and reached with his hand to see if there was anything there. Nothing. "Chert!"he cried out as he slammed his hand into the cabinet at the realization he had forgotten to buy more ammunition the last time he was there.

Nikolai made a deep sigh as he walked into the main room to check the fridge. There was some food, but it would not last long. Eventually he would have to find food somehow and survive at the same time. He sighed and walked out of the door to the cabin and went out on the large balcony that pointed out at the hill's downside. It gave him a perfect view on the huge plain just past the trees.

Keep calm and move along.

Roman was scared, he had only seen things like these in American Movies during his time in the states, and he had just seen some of them, they had been moving away because they obviously seem to dislike the light.

He continued moving, he needed to find somewhere to stay, maybe he could get a car working and head into the wilderness. He wasn't sure he should though, maybe the sound would attract them.

Currently Roman was on a Highway heading to Moscow, but the Traffic had literally stopped dead. He had slept the night in one of the abandoned cars, hiding under blanket he found in a car and laying low on the car floor, it wasn't comfortable but he survived the night.

He was walking through the stopped cars keeping low, and trying to not get the attention of anything. He went up to a car, and opened it up before checking for anything. He found some cold coffee and a snack bar, which he helped himself too and then moved on.

He had no idea what to do or where to go, and all he knew was he needed to find someone, hopefully his cousin who he had come to visit among other family.

He had heard he was in Moscow, but if that was the case he had to wonder whether or not Niko was dead. Though since he had heard his Cousin was a Hunter it might be likely that he had made it out to the surrounding wilderness. Other than that he didn't know where else to look, and the City seemed like a guaranteed death trap, even though most of his skills came into use there.

He decided to head out and look for some way of finding his cousin or at least finding somewhere safe.

6:00 AM, 25th of May, east of Moscow on the road to Nizhniy Novgorod.

David woke up in the car he had sheltered in over night. He got up, quickly looking over and taking in the surrounding area. Abandoned cars...the woods in the distance. Nothing moved, which was a good sign. He took stock in what he had, slightly swearing that he hadn't done so while escaping Moscow from...he still couldn't believe it, zombies of all things. Fricking zombies...just like the ones from those corny zombie flicks back home. He started sifting through his pockets...he had some jerky, corn chips...a couple water bottles beside him, and his combat knife strapped to his leg, which had seen use the previous day. He checked himself over, looking for any wounds. He didn't know if zombification spread the way it showed in the movies, but he wasn't taking any chances. After a thorough look, he didn't find any wounds, and relaxed slightly. He looked around in the car, seeing if he could find anything useful. So far he only found a tourist map of St. Petersburg and some napkins. He took them, deciding they'd make good kindling if nothing else...and he sure as hell wasn't going to any major cities, not if those zombies were crawling all over them.

At the thought of cities, he remembered Vancouver, and the unit he was stationed with there. Had the zombies reached Canada too? Or was it only affecting Russia?

"Great place to visit on leave" muttered David "I just had to end up millions of miles away when the apocalypse came".

David got out of the car, making sure to secure the stuff in his pockets as best he can. There were perks to wearing clothing with lots of pockets. He got his bearings. He was east of Moscow, on the road going to Nizhniy Novgorod...a place he would avoid for now. He decided to head into the woods, where he could camp out away from the zombies, and plan his next move. There'd be wild game, wood and plenty of places to hide...and who knew, maybe he'd run into someone...which didn't seem likely. David started making his way into the forest.
I'm back people...

Roman suddenly froze as he saw one of those things standing no more than ten meters away from him. It must have been crouching among the cars. It wore a torn and bloodstained jumpsuit with the logo of what seemed to be some car workshop; must have been a mechanic. It didn't seem like it had noticed Roman yet, as it seemed it was busy with feeding on a corpse. If he was quiet, Roman could sneak past it without it seeing him, but that body might have something on it...

"gently-carressing Zombies...." Roman said to himself, he was nervous now but there was only one of them. He knew he would have no choice but to encounter one eventually.

He moved off to the side and found a Rock, he threw it over the zombie to hit a car behind it so he could distract it, he moved a bit closer waiting till it was distracted.

-Just outside Moscow, to the east-

Ibrahim Mustafa ran from the city, doing his best to reduce the noise of his footsteps on the leafy ground near the road (he wasn't going to take any chances walking on the road itself, but as he had no idea where he was going, he followed the road anyway) as he escaped from the zombie-infested city where he had only just landed. His escape from the hotel involved a great deal of messing with electronics, using the GPS function on his iPhone 4 (which was now out of battery, unfortunately), and a near brush with death facing a zombie using only a knife he stole off a dead guy's body.

All the while, he cursed his terrible luck; of all the places for his company to send him, why Moscow? There were only a total of 30 people who worked for the company in the entire country, and he just had to be the 31st.

Suddenly, he tripped over a tree root; falling right on his face and getting a mouthful of leaves in his mouth.

"Ill'an abu'll ashjaar! Why the gently-carress couldn't Ahmed have gotten this goddamned assignment!" He thought to himself angrily, slowly getting up and continuing to run towards the wilderness. His only plan consisted of hiding inside the forest once he found a good place to stay, and surviving by hunting animals with the knife he found; which wasn't a very good plan. In reality, though, he was worried; did the infection reach Bahrain? And if so; was his family alright?

Ibrahim suddenly heard voices not too far away. It wasn't the usual growls of the infected, but instead it sounded like people talking, and it came from down the road. He had trees and bushes as cover, so would be able to see whoever it was talking and remain unseen.

Crouching by a bush, Ibrahim saw a group of five people standing among the abandoned cars on the road. Four of them had iron pipes, crowbars and baseball bats as weapons and were facing the fifth, who was unarmed and was backing away from the four. "So how about it old man?"one of the men said in Russian. "You're gonna give us your stuff or do we have to get rough?"

The older man raised his hands in front of him. "Look, there's no reason to-"He silenced when one of them slammed him in the head with his crowbar, making him fall to the ground. The three others joined and gathered in a ring, they continued to beat the man in the head until he stopped moving, then they started searching his body.

Alex ran for his life. He had run from his hotel room in Moscow, managed to find some transport and drove until the fuel ran out, which didn't turn out to be very far. he made his way through the industrial outskirts of Moscow and into the country. He moved silently through some bushes, making sure no zombie or human could hear him. His entrenching tool was already covered in the blood of someone who thought him an easy mark.

They couldn't get me in Afghanistan, or Chechnya, bastards won't get me in my own damn country.

He found a crashed army truck and began sifting through it for supplies.

Damn, no weapons, might be some water or food though.
...scum.

But to Alex's disappointment, there was no supplies to be found. All that was in the back were loads of ammunition, but that was useless to him right now. However, as he searched through the driver and passenger seats, he found a map of the area in the glove box.

Keep calm and move along.

"excrement." Ibrahim thought, slowly backing away from the scene careful not to make any noise; he was an engineer, not a policeman or a soldier

Roman went over to check the body, his bat at the ready in case he needed to bash the zombie's skull in, or even the corpses skull in, he wasn't even sure if the body that was being eaten might get back up.

He was exceedingly careful, as soon as he checked he would get the hell out.

There wasn't much of use on the body of whoever that poor sucker was. A can of soda. A few candy bars. A wallet with about a thousand roubles in it along with a family photo - which one on the photo this guy was was unclear, as half his face had been eaten. Then Roman saw that the man held a wrench in his right hand. It would be useful if he wanted to fix any cars in the future, but he still had no idea if the body could simply rise again.

Keep calm and move along.

He knew if it was going to get up he would bash its face in, it was best to just not think of it as human, as it was more of a mercy to put the monsters down.

Roman slowly stretched out his hand towards the wrench, staring at the body's torn face. When it didn't seem like it was going to get up, he turned his attention to the hand holding the wrench. He slowly opened the hand and took the wrench. Then the hand suddenly jerked and grabbed his lower arm. Roman turned back to the man's face, only to see it staring at him. The right half of the man's face was completely torn off, showing his gums, cheek bone and the entire eye. The man opened his mouth and gave a guttural screech, showing that his tongue had also been torn out.

David heard a gutteral screech a short distance away. He immediately took cover, and got his combat knife ready. He wasn't too far from the road, as he wanted to occasionaly raid the cars for supplies, and use the road as a landmark. David then slowly made his forwards from his camp, checking to make sure he left it well hidden. As he inched his way forward, he saw a civilian beating a zombies skull in. However he also saw another zombie shambling towards him, unnoticed. David decided to neutralize the zombie, and silently and quickly moved toward the zombie, getting closer. When he was close enough, David lunged forward with the knife, aiming for the base of the skull, where the knife would sever the spine and plunge deep into the brain.

The beast was unwilling to go down to say the least. When Roman hit it in the head, he bashed it into the asphalt, but it got up again six or seven times before it silenced and released his arm. Roman's bat, clothes and face were now covered with stains of blood. He heard a growl from in front of him and saw the zombie mechanic he lured away earlier come running in full speed across the roofs of the cars, screaming loudly.

The knife hit perfectly and the Zed dropped dead immediately with a growl. But it seemed the screech had attracted more of them, as David saw three more come running from behind the civilian.

Suddenly, Ibrahim heard more growls coming from the road. Turning his head to look, he saw some zombies about to attack two survivors.

"I watched the last group go down, but I sure as hell wouldn't be able to live with myself if I passed on them too!" Ibrahim thought, running up to one of the zombies that was lagging behind the others and grabbing it's forehead; before creating a deep slash in it's throat with his knife unti it's spine and kicking the zombie towards the other zombies; attracting their attention

"Uh, a little help guys?!" Ibrahim said in a panicky voice, noticing that the zombies were now staring at him

David moved quickly, snapping the neck of one, and kicked in the knee of the other, snapping its kneecap and causing it to fall. However, it tried to attack David still, chasing him with a severe limp as it dragged its shattered knee behind it. The other remaining zombie turned its attention to Ibrahim, and lunged at him as well. David made sure to keep the zombie in his sights, and to keep constantly on the move. Even wounded, it was still extremely dangerous...likely even more so by its wound, as all animals were. He waited for the right moment to strike...and saw it as the zombie stumbled and fell. David lunged with his foot, aiming to cave its skull in.

David's foot smashed the Zed's head into the asphalt, breaking its nose with a crack. But it didn't seem to kill it; it was still growling.

Meanwhile, the zombie mechanic was quickly catching up with Roman, as it was running over the cars while Roman ran around them. Roman felt his heart pound harder and harder as he heard the screaming come closer behind him.

Keep calm and move along.

David sighed explosively, then pinned it to the ground with his knee.

"You assholes just don't know when to die, do you?"

He grabbed its head, then gave it a savage twist, breaking its neck and severing the spine. David then turned and went to help the arabic survivor.

Roman knew he wasn't going to outpace the zombie who seemed to have unnatural agility.

He turned  got his bat ready as the thing hoped over the car at him and he swung as hard as he could into the undead's legs. The adrenaline fueling his swing as his strong muscles exerted there force, strong from years of hard work.
