Mass Effect 3 to be ORGIN required
« on: January 17, 2012, 12:54:36 AM »
[float=left][/float] Planning on buying Mass Effect 3 on steam? You may want to think again. Bioware has released the following message on their developer forums that the popular Mass Effect series will not be available on Steam for its March 6 release date. Bioware cited that "During initial release Mass Effect 3 will be available on Origin and a number of other 3rd party digital retailers, but not on Steam at this time. Steam has adopted a set of restrictive terms of service which limit how developers interact with customers to deliver patches and other downloadable content.  We are intent on providing Mass Effect to players with the best possible experience no matter where they purchase or play their game, and are happy to partner with any download service that does not restrict our ability to connect directly with our consumers.". This event is following the recent trend of EA pushing its abusive DRM on its users with games such as Crysis 2, Battlefield 3, and many others being forced off steam and into Orgin Only.

One can guess that due to this, this spring's final instalment of the Mass Effect series may have a hard time getting a grip in the PC market whos saves are with steam. When will EA learn no one wants their junk.

So EA is talking for Bioware now...

Anyways I'll just buy it, and crack it.

You should have seen my roughdraft of the post! I pointed out the exact same thing... Also stuff about EA Holding everyone's balls; but lets not get back into that.

Yeah... if you weren't expecting this... I'm sorry, but it was pretty obviously going to happen.

It's OK, there'll be a no-Origin "patch" for this just like there was to allow legit BF3 owners play online without it.

Origin just saved me $80.

It's a shame that I won't get to experience the final chapter in Mass Effect but it isn't the end of the world.  There are still other great games coming out this year and my 2011 catalog will last me for quite some time.

I myself have had a trend going of having both the PC and Xbox version of ME...but, I guess I can live without the PC version since it uses Orgin

As far as I know, there were some people who were indifferent and people who are upset towards Origin. Still, why couldn't they make Origin optional instead for physical copies? It's better than getting hassled by DRM bullexcrement.
And don't try to tell me DRM is used to fight piracy, because I know you will say that and you're wrong.

What about people who simply don't mind Origin?

I would tell them to enjoy not knowing what an untrustworthy company is doing with their system and that they have no concept of security.

Meh. I don't like Origin, but I don't hate it enough to prevent me from enjoying the third part of my favourite video game series.

Origin doesn't even phase me.

I have a perfectly good Xbox to use. :P

Oh, I do as well, but I'd still play ME3 even if I did have in on PC.

And I don't understand why some people think you can't import your ME1+ME2 save on ME3 because the first two games on Steam. The save files for both games are separate from Steam client, you can import them on ME3.

9)Can I install Origin, install Mass Effect 3 and then uninstall Origin and keep playing Mass Effect 3? Even if I only want to play the Single Player Game?
Mass Effect 3 requires Origin to be played, so you cannot play Mass Effect 3 without Origin being installed. This applies to both the single player and multiplayer games.

10) If I have uninstalled Mass Effect 3 or Origin, do I need to reinstall Origin to reinstall Mass Effect 3?
You must have Origin installed to play Mass Effect 3. You would need to reinstall Origin and Mass Effect 3.

11)If I have installed Mass Effect 3 and Origin, do I need to keep the install/gameplay disc in the disc drive to play?
Once you have installed Mass Effect 3 and Origin, you do not have to keep the disc in the tray

*Sighs* You really want ME3 to be the most pirated EA game, do you EA?
