Closer look at the Wii U [Gallery]
« on: June 15, 2011, 04:22:47 AM »
[float=left][attach=1][/float] In the wake of E3, with everyone's attention turned to the Wii U one might be wondering about what the console actually looks like. Well don't worry because Inside-Games has you covered. Just recently inside-games has unloaded 7 photos of the device, 3 of them console shots from varying angles, and 4 from the unique controller which has everyone's attention.

More after the break.[cutoff]

Looking at the controller, it looks extremely unique, but at the same time shares some resemblance to its competitors own offerings. Like the Xbox 360, and PS3 controller; the Wii U's features duo-Thumbsticks, as well as a D-pad on the lower left and 4 face buttons labeled "ABXY". When you turn over the device, you notice that it also features both Bumpers and Triggers in similar fashion to the Xbox 360 and PS3. Looking at the front again, we notice that at the bottom there is a string of buttons. you have (from the looks of it) Back, Home, and Start. An the right side you can notice the power button, as well as a battery level indicator similar to their own DSI, and 3DI.

Now lets get onto the difference of it. In the Wii U's controller, we notice it has a built in touchscreen. Reports show that the touchscreen can be used as a second screen incase the television isn't available. With it being touchscreen, it also adds yet another input device to the controller allowing for more complex menus and game mechanics than its competitors. The controller also features two speakers on each side to allow as an audio source for when playing from the controller. Third and finally, the controller features a camera, and microphones along the bar at the top. This can allow games to use things such as Face-to-Face communication to placing a picture of you inside of the game for added features; while the microphones, can be used for anything from voice communication online to adding your own twist in the game -just to name a few things.

All in all, the device looks pretty solid. Dont forget to check out the gallery after the bump for the photos, and we will keep you updated as more and more information becomes available!

Yeah looking at that.  I am not impressed with this controller.  Looks painful to use.

Looks uncomfortable to use and the menu buttons are really out of the way.
Well I haven't owned a Nintendo product since NES and this isn't going to change that.

I have never been really fond of Nintendo. They really never succeed to make a good console. Besides, it's just the same games over and over: Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong...

Keep calm and move along.

That's really, really clunky. And it even has that bump in the back to accomodate trigger buttons...geez.

Bringing this over here, as it pertains more to the console than Nintendo's shares.

Wii U will not play any sort of DVD and/or Blu-ray movie.

Wii U uses a GPU similar in power to the AMD R770, the chip used in the Radeon HD 4890, for example.

I was just going to make a news topic about the Wii U not featuring DvD Support

Ooops. :P

But not including DVD support is just a way of avoiding the patents and licensing deals involved. Probably to get the costs down. But it is a dumb move in my opinion. That, coupled with the report that it has a GPU that is more or less already dated...it really is underwhelming. This Wii U is what the Wii should've been when it launched. Now it'll just get clobbered by the competition in terms of performance.
