Battlefield 3 runs the risk of not coming to Steam

[float=left][attach=1][/float]
It seems now that Battlefield 3 runs the risk of not coming to steam.

Steam has been conspicuously left out of the list of digital retailers for BF3 before said list was pulled from EA's site.

And it seems to be because of the exact same reason Crysis 2 was pulled from Steam. Steam forbids a publisher from directly handling patches and DLCs, If I recall corectly.

Still not sure I buy that this is due to an issue brought up by Valve. You would think EA would be rushing to pin this on Valve and get fan outrage going to support their game.

At the VERY least, they obviously want this and/or simply don't give a gently-carress, because they're being suspiciously quiet about the whole deal.
Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.

Yup. Pretty much.

Might be EA trying to sell their new Origin store. Put a highly anticipated game on it, and it's bound to get some extra use.

Eh. I don't really see the issue, most places you can buy a hard copy, and if you can't, there are other digital retailers.

The reason why it's a problem is because Steam is one of the most massive distribution markets on PC.  Cutting them out of a release like Battlefield 3 is a very good way to ensure that they lose the upcoming battle to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

It's also a good way to piss off a lot of PC gamers who don't want to add yet another digital download service.

Because that's so important. The market is already oversaturated with shooters. One series dying will be a good thing.

Is it really that hard to download from something that isn't your main service? Will Steam get angry at you for cheating on it?

And yes, I know I'm being pissy, but I haven't gotten any sleep and these reasons make no sense to me, damn it.

difference is that BF3 will actually be something 'new' while COD has been putting the same thing out with a different SP since years ago...

aahhhh offtopic...
steam is becoming the walmart of online sales. resistance is futile.

The "one download service" thing is merely for the sake of convenience. It doesn't actually HURT to get it from another download service, but it's an extra pair of username/password to manage. And don't mention using the same password for more than one site because we all know how that usually ends. With one service being compromised and the user having to run around changing passes.

As Mikethor said, having one download service is simply more convenient than having to manage a half dozen or whatever the case happens to be.

And yes, it would be good if Call of Duty died off as it has a complete stranglehold on the rest of the shooter market.  But that's my opinion.

And an up vote for Captain. Ahem. Opinion on possibly not having it on steam, doubt that will happen, EA loves money to much to pass up that large of a sales possibility .

That was Valve's decision I believe, not EA.

So they say at least.  Also: it may have been Valves decision to remove it due to terms of service but that doesn't mean that EA didn't choose to not abide by the terms of service...

Aye, there's always the other side of the coin.
