It was a long and hard road up the goat trail; he had lost at least a dozen men so far from injuries and deaths. But this was not what concerned Kasado the most; no, what worried the Abbasid man was the possibility of an ambush now that more and more light was shining upon his forces in the crevise as the day grew nearer.

He looked towards the skies, once more offering a prayer, as he led his forces onward to the Tsardom.
Kasado then saw that the long, narrow path they were walking on turned to the right, right into a cave in the mountain. He walked up to the cave and looked in, only to see that it was a large tunnel rather than a cave. He could not see anything within the cave, as it seemed to swallow all light that attempted to enter. But he could see that, at the end of the tunnel, there was a weak glimmer of sunlight, so it definitely went somewhere. There was no way to tell what hid in the darkness, though.

Keep calm and move along.

Kasado looked at the tunnels, before turning to his aide, "Bring five scouts, and equip them with ten oil lamps each. They shall walk through the tunnel placing the lamps on the ground for each twenty paces that they walk; this will ensure that either our way is completely lighted once they go and return, or that something awaits us in the darkness if the scouts do not return and the oil lamp trail suddenly stops when we enter."

The aide nodded, shouting the orders to the scouts and Kamule herders.
"You accept darkness, yet choose to live in the light. So why is it that you loathe us who teeter on the edge of nothing? We, who were turned away by both light and dark - never given a choice?"

Minutes passed. Kasado watched from where he was as the oil lamps lit up one by one along the tunnel. Soon you could see through the tunnel quite clearly. There were no visible obstacles in the tunnel as far as Kasado could see, though the length of the tunnel made it impossible to see what was at the very end of it.

Suddenly one of the scouts took a turn to the right as they were heading back towards the army, into a smaller tunnel sprouting in another direction into the mountain, despite audible protests from his companions. The other scouts also stopped and seemed to be waiting for him. After just about ten seconds, there was a loud scream from the scout further in, followed by a loud, angry roar, and then a very loud bang as something large and heavy seemed to hit stone. The other four scouts jumped in fear and quickly began running towards Kasado, not very eager to wait and see what made that sound.

They didn't need to, though, as within a few seconds, Kasado made a startled gasp as a huge creature rushed out into the main tunnel, his momentum slamming his shoulder into the tunnel wall, but soon ran after the scouts with heavy steps. Kasado recognized the creature to be a troll; a creature he had until now only heard and read of. It was at least three metres tall, it was carrying a huge home-made club, and it seemed angry to have its home disturbed. With a loud roar, the troll struck down with his club, stopping one of the screaming scouts in his tracks as he crushed him against the floor.

"TROLL!!"one of the soldiers yelled out behind Kasado, and he saw his men starting to panic. Kasado looked around for a moment. He had to act, and he had to act now.

Keep calm and move along.

Kasado immediately knew what he had to do, turning towards his most elite soldiers, "Gandalfr, engage the beast; Alchemical Mages, slow its movements; Crossbowmen, fire at its chest and face." He bellowed, taking command of the situation, "Spearmen, back up the Gandalfr; harass the beast with your spears!" He added, hoping that the spearmen would both distract the monster and serve as cannon fodder for it to divert its attention from the more valuable units; he would keep the Swordmages back for now, they would only overcrowd the battle area

The Gandalfr rushed forward, covered in their runed plate armor as they assaulted the beast with alchemical attacks; unleashing spiked tendrils of stone towards the beast. The Alchemical Mages used their alchemy to halt it's movements by encasing one of its legs in stone. The crossbowmen opened fire, unleashing arrows as they aimed towards the less armored spots. The spearmen, as ordered, rushed forward; stabbing at the monster with their az-zaġāyah spears.

The beast immediately bent over a bit and, to Kasado's surprise, covered as much of its chest and belly as it could with its arm, rather than trying to protect its head and face. After the first volley of bolts from the crossbows, there seem to have been no damage done to the troll at all. Rather, the troll looked up as the crossbowmen started reloading their weapons, and let out a loud roar which echoed throughout the caves and made the faces of every single spearman in front of it; they would surely have ran away if they had anywhere to go.

The beast began shambling towards the soldiers, the magic of neither the Gandalfr nor the mages doing anything to stop its approach. But rather than swinging its large club, the troll suddenly threw it with a furious bark. Kasado quickly jumped out of the way, and he heard many of his men yell out in panic, but there was nothing they could do. The enormous club swept with it the spearmen, the Gandalfr and the alchemical mages in front of it, and Kasado could only watch as everyone who stood in front of the cave, were swept with the club and plunged down the steep cliff, all screaming loudly as they plunged to their deaths.

The Spearmen took the brunt of the assault, annihilating fifteen of them, killing five Alchemical Mages, and knocking three Ganfalfrs down below to the sea. Kasado gritted his teeth angrily as he turned to the Alchemical Mages and crossbowmen behind him, dreading that the order would have to be given; but knowing that it was necessary.

"Ihtiraaq." He ordered, as the crossbowmen nodded; aiming their weapons at the beast while replacing their bolts with specialised variants

The Gandalfr slammed their palms against the ground, sending more tendrils of stone that wrapped around his arms and pulled them downwards; he would be able to break the weak alchemized stone with enough effort, but for now he was immobilised. The crossbowmen then fired, firing a whole barrage of thirty-five bolts at the creature with extremely long strings attached to their ends. The long strings did not lead back to the crossbows, however, as they were not meant to immobilise the beast; but their arrowheads were tough and hardened, of high armor piecing quality that would surely penetrate at least the skin of the beast at such high velocities.
