Game IV IndustrialCraft Minecraft Server
« on: January 07, 2012, 06:52:00 PM »
GameIV Industrial Craft/BuildCraft Minecraft Server
Server Version 1.1

Server Information
Welcome to the GameIV Industrialcraft Buildcraft Minecraft server.  This server is whitelisted and in order to play you need to PM DrTran your Minecraft name.  Please note it is Case Sensitive.

Guides/Wikis
Industrial Craft
BuildCraft
RailCraft
RedPower - (We Do not have World installed)
PowerConverters
Additional Pipes - Scroll down and you'll see a spoiler for the recipes

Client Connect Information
The server address is minefish.net:25569
You will be unable to connect with out the correct mods, there are two ways to obtain them.  Option A) Download the Easy Installer and click install.  Option B) Google for and download each individual mod, mod your minecraft jar file, and pray you got the order right.

Option A
Minecraft Version 1.1 with out OptiFine - Download Link (~7mb)
Minecraft Version 1.1 with OptiFine - Download Link (~8mb)

REQUIRED
You need this Conflict ID Hotfix, even if you are installing from the installer above
Minecraft Version 1.1 Conflict ID Hot Fix - Download Link (~70kb)

Optional
OptiFine  Download here -- Only install this if you did not choose to install OptiFine from the mod installer above!

Source Files - For those of you on linux/prefer to mod your own minecraft jar/etc.  This is tar.gz compressed, IE designed more for linux.  Any decent compression program on windows should read it though.  Also I am not going to explain how to install them, it is understood that you have an basic understanding on how to mod minecraft.
Download Here

OptiFine Notes
Optional, the installer has been updated to include OptiFine and InvTweaks.  The main installer will be more or less a one shot deal, as uninstalling reverts back to your previous MC install (longer to change the OptiFine mods).  If you know which one you want it is no big deal to install it and call it a day.  For those of you who want to experiment with the different versions of OptiFine you can use the Optional installer above which will just add the selected OptiFine mod.  You can uninstall/reinstall very easily and does not affect anything other than your minecraft.jar.  It is highly recommended that you uninstall before reinstalling the OptiFine mod as from what I've seen you can only have one installed at a time.

Click the Spoiler to learn why it is much smaller
Spoiler for Hiden:
The reason why this installer is so much smaller is more files are generated on the fly.  This in combination with different installation engine allows the installer to have a much smaller foot print.  You do need to be connected to the internet to be able to download a fresh and clean minecraft.jar file.

After you download this before you install , BACKUP AND REINSTALL MINECRAFT!  then run this installer.  (IE Delete your .minecraft folder, and run minecraft to download the new files)  Then you can install without issue.  People have reported repeated crashing.  If they didn't do this

Option B)
Click the spoiler below and get all the mods at their latest version

Tran has created a texture pack for the Game-IV Industrial Craft server,  while right now it is unofficial/official it is entirely optional for any one who connects to yet.  The main 'easy' installer has been cleaned up and I've added the texture pack to it with an option to install it or not to install it.  For those who just want to be lazy in the installation department I've created a patch installer for it.

Hmm. I'll have to try it out. The Nether ores are look really weird right now. Dunno, but I can't see the ore veins well on that reddish rock.

That was an intentional choice of the mod creator.

The texture pack I've got at this point is a painterly, needs a couple of tweaks though.  Also tin/copper/uranium is not changed.  I may try to modify those to match the pack if I can but it doesn't stand out too much.

Another note:  Server 'sploded earlier, still down.  Not sure when it'll be back up but I'm heading to bed now.

Just FYI: I know it's broken.

Indeed, update 1.1 is up.

I don't remember how to stop it from updating though...

Ah yes, switching the files from under it. Gotcha.

Or use rev2 of the launcher?  (released ages ago about ~v1.3/1.4 of minecraft beta)  It gives you the option to update or not.

Anyways, the server is back online

The latest one from minecraft.net only gives me the option to force the update... :(

I noticed that some quarries in the server have a redstone clock attached. Are we able to power quarries with them or are we still forced to use engines? I want something that can be left running unattended, as my first experiment with a quarry and a combustion engine went kablooie and I lost 11 diamonds.

IT is supposed to work with a red stone clock, I've never gotten it to work myself.  And internal combustion engines are not bad when you have a constant source of water going into them.   (I highly suggest creating and 3x3x1 infinite pool of water for the engines)

I've had a quarry set up that ran off of 3 combustion engines, 2 water pumps feeding off an infinite water pool and had no issues at all with it.  Just create a 'buffer' tank to hold the extra when not needed.

2 engines for the quarry and one for the pumps?

From what i see in the wiki, redstone clock power was abolished in recent versions when the engines were introduced. It only works in old versions of BC.

Same address, add 1 to the port number. I think.

I meant it ends in 67, IIRC.

Nope, it's minefish.net:25569.

Ah, it's pretty much what this guy describes in this link that happened to me, left a combustion engine running, logged off and came back to a nasty crater.

http://www.mod-buildcraft.com/forums/topic/combustion-engine-exploding-on-smp-when-logging-out/

Are we on 3.0 yet? Dunno if we already have pipe gates, as it seems the only automatic solution for when one goes off exploring away from the pump/engine/quarry setup.

It seems that when the chunk unloads, the pump stops working and the engine overheats.

Really experiencing a lot of lag on this server
Try to get away from places with lots of machinery and see if it gets better.

My lag isn't stellar either, but I'm experiencing much less than in that other public server we used to play on.

The lag is more common in areas with alot of machines.  Also what can cause lag is drawing water directly from the ocean (creates currents, etc from the pumps).  No the server is not on v3.0 as last I checked it was still alpha and had no SMP support.

There are advanced pipes through the Additional Pipes mod,  For leaving an area you can craft a 'chunk loader' which will reload the chunk when a player leaves it.  This can cause some lag as more and more chunks are kept in memory.

If you're using water for any engines please create an infinite water pool to draw from so you do not create currents in the ocean (which will increase server lag).  In other terms it can also be easiest to have a switch (on/off) for each engine.

And in my quarry setup it was 3 combustion engines -> 2 quarrys.  The water pump was run by the red stone engine, (hence two pumps) which fed into a master holding tank.  A single red stone engine pulled from the holding tank and fed the combustion engines.

In later revisions, I switched over to using an 'Energy Link' which converts IC power to BC power at 90% efficiency (only 10% is lost in the conversion).  This requires a good power source to operate, but nice for when you don't want an engine going nuclear on you.

I'm testing two steam engines connected to the same quarry. They seem to work well, and the quarry delivers a stream of blocks from mining. They don't seem to overheat, at least for the time I was around.

Drawback is that they need to burn stuff, so it's either coal (precious) or lava(very precious).
From some forums i've seen around, it seems that with BC and IC toghether, it's possible to burn sugarcanes for energy, which can be an alternative if the person has a large enough sugarcane farm.

EDIT: Sugarcanes go very quickly.

If you go near the factory, expect lag. :ermm:

Speaking of, I have free food on tap for anyone who needs any and can get to the factory. The food is easy to find from the main entrance, just follow the signs. If you do harvest anything, please replant what you take, though everything you'd possibly need is in the "Harvested Goods" chest. If it's getting low or missing anything, let me know so I can restock.

Also, if you need help setting anything up when I'm on, I'm decent with both BC and IC (though not as good at it as the other ops, but I try). I've gotten the cobblestone generators down to an art by this point :P

amw and I fixed up the harvested goods section and now there's a barn full of goodies for anyone who needs anything. There's precooked food, leather, feathers, canned food, apples, and pumpkins. I still need to setup a place for the watermelons, though, since the current lot is sorted by pipe into individual chests.

If you mean the ones in my treefarm, you can tap them if you need any rubber and use the extractor in the workshop :) There may even be some rubber tree saplings in the farming supplies chest so you can plant your own nearer to your area. I'll have a check next time I'm on.
