Civilization V
« on: July 22, 2011, 01:01:26 AM »
I've never been very into, or very good at, the Civ games but I've had my eye on Civ V for a while just because they've always been a paragon of the strategy Genre.

Now it's 66% off on steam, $17 for the normal version $20 and change for deluxe, so I think I'm going to have to acquire it and get to the gaming.

Anyone have anything to encourage/discourage this?

Eh... from what I've seen, Civil IV is better. But Civ V is better for beginners.

Nice jumping on point into the series, like Muk said though. Civ IV does have a little more depth, but of course there are certain things that haven't been fixed in it unlike V. Both have their pros and cons, if you're just starting out might as well grab V for the littlest you can, right?

... Civilization isn't an RTS. That would mean it would be real time, which it very much isn't.

Aye, it's completely turn-based.

No. Not the same thing at all. Civilization and, say Warcraft, are -entirely- different genres. The only similarity is "strategy"

there is one thing i like in Civ V: hexagon tiles. I was so tired of square tiles.

One thing I didn't like: they did away with the cool videos used for the wonders and the victories.

Well. to be honest, I liked Civ IV better than Civ V. The classical/infamous "one more turn curse" of the 4x games is a lot stronger in Civ IV for me, than it is in Civ V. A lot stronger.
For example, Civ V hasn't yet managed to keep me up all the way to 4AM unlike it's predecessor.
