Microsoft has a Change of Heart
« on: June 19, 2013, 09:08:54 PM »
[float=left][/float]
Microsoft has released a full reversal on all of its DRM plans, ranging from online connectivity to used game sales. You will no longer have to be connect once per day, and games won't be locked to your accounts. Seems they had a small change of heart after Amazon announced the PS4 was outselling the xbone 4 to 1.

They also announced that they have removed the ability to share and sell digital games and you will now require the disk to be in all times instead of not requiring it like earlier.

I have a few things to say to this.

ONE - I am still getting a PS4 first and foremost, This may make me consider an Xbox One down the line when I can afford it.

TWO - They are gently-carressing lying saying they listened to anyone, they just excrement their pants when they realized all the money they would lose. They only cared about the reaction Sony got, not the advice the consumers gave them day one.

THREE - They are still damaged goods, and all look like complete asses now. They just back peddled and that looks about as good as sticking to their guns did.

Untrue, its only required if you get the game on disc. If you download it from there online service it does not require a disc, as you never had one.

I meant for physical games. It pretty much guarantees that I'm no longer purchasing any special editions.

Wow. I definitely wasn't expecting Microsoft to be this not-stupid.

Still probably going to get a PS4, but god damn. I think everyone should do a victory dance for this.

Does it matter? A game is a game, and a console is a console.

in this case, since both consoles run on x86/64, they are actually pc's :)

It matters if one of the consoles requires you to be raped by it to play.

I suppose. Recent events has caused me to see thing's differently. Gaming just doesn't hold the same importance for me anymore.

It's not even really a matter of whether or not gaming is important to someone. It was just about really excrementty business practice that should not be (and thankfully was not) encouraged.

Interestingly enough, this comes out the day after the US Navy released statement saying that the xbox one was useless for soldiers on deployment and that it would be buying PS4s in future.
...scum.

You are in control of what Kinect can see and hear: By design, you will determine how responsive and personalized your Xbox One is to you and your family during setup. The system will navigate you through key privacy options, like automatic or manual sign in, privacy settings, and clear notifications about how data is used. When Xbox One is on and you’re simply having a conversation in your living room, your conversation is not being recorded or uploaded.

You are in control of when Kinect sensing is On, Off or Paused: If you don’t want the Kinect sensor on while playing games or enjoying your entertainment, you can pause Kinect. To turn off your Xbox One, just say “Xbox Off.” When the system is off, it’s only listening for the single voice command -- “Xbox On,” and you can even turn that feature off too. Some apps and games may require Kinect functionality to operate, so you’ll need to turn it back on for these experiences.

You are in control of your personal data: You can play games or enjoy applications that use data, such as videos, photos, facial expressions, heart rate and more, but this data will not leave your Xbox One without your explicit permission. Here are a few examples of potential future scenarios:
A fitness game could measure heart rate data to provide you with improved feedback on your workout, allow you to track your progress, or even measure calories burned.
A card game could allow you to bluff your virtual opponent using your facial expressions.

Indeed. Having a camera on all the time is, well, creepy as gently-carress. Having a patent for counting people in front of the thing and blocking content is downright despicable. They have no business controlling how the console is used or how many people get to sit in front of it.

Oh finally, something clear. Though I still think they deserve all the bashing they can get just for starting this mess. If there was no stink raised over this, they'd just walk over people and implement it as is.

Companies file patents all the time which never get used, hell Sony sits on this thing

Though the xbone should not collect any sort of info, but consume it as it is provided by kinect. Use it, and then immediately discard it.
