I tried playing that Requiem mod.  This was the result.

(Skyrim) Requiem mod is NOT for me...

I think that I'll be sticking to Skyrim Redone...

Argonians look much cooler with Dawnguard's "lit-up" vampire eyes.

I guess the mod I'm using changed the vampire eyes.  As a vampire it changed my eyes to a red slit eye instead of cool lit-up eyes.

And I still can't play the damn game. I even asked customer support but they couldn't tell what was wrong.

What happens when you try to play it?

Got Dawnguard with a 25% off coupon over at GMG.  Decided to clean my install of mods and start over with a new character.  I've never played as an Argonian before so this should be fun.

User News / Re: Electronic Arts reportedly shopping around for a buyer
« on: August 20, 2012, 02:10:42 AM »
Not surprising in the least.  Their stocks have dropped about 40% since the beginning of the year.  If you make bad products people will stop buying from you.  I know I have.  The last EA game I bought was Mass Effect 2 which was more than 2 years ago.  I never bought any of the DLC for it either.

Hopefully someone good buys them.  Someone who treats the developers and customers with respect.  One of the reasons Mass Effect 3 was so awful was because Bioware was full of newbie developers who were probably working insane hours.  All of the experienced developers left once EA started ruling with an iron fist.  EA has done this with all of their other studios that have failed.  Even if someone bad buys them it can't be any worse than the current management.  The current management has already pushed me away.  You can't do any worse than that from my standpoint.

Worked on it a little today.  Here is the summary of what I've done:

Found the issue of the non-textured player models.  It seems to be the models themselves.  I imported another custom model (Tali) and it worked just fine.  Here is a video showing the comparison:

Paranoia Playermodel Glitch

Found a problem with the SWEP base I'm using.  For some reason it places the weapon directly below the player instead of in their hands.  I've already had reworking the SWEP base on my list of things to do.  This is just another thing I'll have to fix when I go in there.

Fixed gender names not matching their player model.  This was a simple fix.

Changed the class text on the HUD to name text.  Your class can be determined by the color of the HUD, your need, or the scoreboard.  Having your in-game name on the HUD is more useful than your class.

Bethesda are saying (at QuakeCon) that Dawnguard PC is out at last right now, but I can’t get it come up on Steam just yet.

$20 on Steam.

Personally $20 is a bit too much to justify spending on a DLC.  I'll wait until the winter sale where I hope it will be $7.50 or cheaper.

I've seen lesser things on ModDB; sorry to hear about your bad experience though. So are you doing this all by yourself?

Yeah all of the gamemode coding is done by myself.  There are a couple of things being used that I didn't make like the SWEP base.  All of the assets I'm using are all currently existing Garry's Mod assets.  As far as the maps go I am using maps that were made for the gamemode that this gamemode is based off of.  I also have someone making a map for this gamemode.

So far the hardest part of doing this gamemode is working around and resolving issues that I encountered with Garry's Mod and/or Source.  Researching and trial & error was also a significant time sink.

Right now I'm working on streamlining the client/server messaging and making sure the client works on late joins.  After I finish that I can work on client side effects like the alien form nightvision.  After that it'll be ready for beta testing where I'll tweak the balancing based on the telemetry I get and player input.

After the beta I'll work on fixing up the smaller issues like the weapon sounds not all playing how they should.  In the video you can see that when the player brings the bolt back on the weapon there is no sound.  That's a limitation in the SWEP base I'm using so it will require tweaks there.

You couldn't put this on ModDB could you?

I'm not sure.  It's not really a full on mod.  Either way I've had problems with ModDB in the past.  One of their admins was abusive and they wouldn't do anything about it.  That was back in 2006 but I still don't trust them.

Modding Discussion / [Garry's Mod] Paranoia
« on: July 31, 2012, 10:05:25 AM »
Paranoia Overview:
Paranoia is a Garry's Mod gamemode in which humans are pitted against aliens. At the start of the round there is a preparation time when everyone can go find weapons and items. After that time is over a certain amount of humans are randomly picked to become an alien host. Their identities are unknown to the humans and it is up to the humans to find out who the aliens are and eliminate them. Meanwhile, the goal of the aliens is to infest or eliminate every human player before the round comes to a close.

To keep things interesting, humans are given tasks in which they need to complete. These random tasks are scattered throughout the map. If a human fails to complete a task, they will suffer. This helps eliminate camping and grouping.

Ideas (Please Comment):

Infestable Bodies (Unconfirmed)

When a human is killed they will become a ragdoll like in TTT.
If an alien in alien form uses their ragdoll they will also become an alien.
Even if the human was killed by another human, their body can still become infested. This further punishes DMing by giving the aliens a huge advantage.
The human that was killed will become an alien spawn until their body is infested.
When a player's body is infested, it will notify that person of the infestation. They will be able to jump back to their body at any time by pressing E.
Any infestable bodies will show up on every alien's vision, much like how T's can see other T's through walls.
Only previously human bodies are infestable. Aliens that die in either their human or alien form cannot be reinfested.

Stress (Unconfirmed)

This "Stress" system would be very similar to the "Karma" system in TTT. As you accumulate more stress from DMing your vision will become blurry and your damage will suffer. The more stress you have the worse it will be.

Feign Death (Unconfirmed)

Humans and aliens would be able to feign death. Robots and alien spawns would not be able to feign death.
Aliens would be able to tell if a human is feigning by looking at them.
To go into feign position you would press Z.
To get back up normally you would press E.
To get back up and instantly jump into alien form you would press Q.

Tasks (Completed)

I found the old task system to be pretty unrealistic and brutal. You would literally die if you took 5 seconds too long to find the shower. In this remake you will suffer from failing to complete a task but not to an absolutely brutal degree. For every second over your task deadline, you will loose 1 health per second. This will not kill you, but it will lower your health down to 1 HP.

Weight (Completed)

The more weapons you have the slower you will move.  You cannot expect to be armed like a tank yet move like a cheetah.  Likewise, you will only be able to pick up so many weapons before your weight doesn't allow you to pick up any more.

Progress:
[7-31-12]
Project officially resumed and brought back to life.
Basic serverside systems (classes, costumes, game loop, names, needs, weapons, weight) complete.
Basic clientside systems needs finishing.

User Reviews / Re: Deus Ex - ''That game with a wacky name''
« on: June 15, 2012, 06:10:10 AM »
Never played it personally, but I played its prequel Human Revolution, which I found very fun. Still, it sounds like the orginal let you have more variety in weapons and methods of completing a mission than HR.

That's about right.  I've played this game at least 15 times now and every time I find something new.  Last year I found an alternate way into a certain secured room.  I never even knew that existed until then.  The attention to detail in this game is by far one of the best.  I wish more games would focus on creating a deep world like Deus Ex did.

The customization is also more involved in DX1 than HR.  Even if you complete all of the side objectives and find all of the hidden places for experience and items you still won't be able to master everything.  Even on my highest XP run I was still miles away from mastering all of the skills.  You may be able to find enough aug upgrade canisters in one playthrough to fully upgrade every aug but I never have.  I have gotten fairly close though.  FYI: Skill points and augs are completely separate in DX1.

The game is also non-linear enough to where you can do special runs like a no kill or no alarm run.  I know this may sound pretty tame considering you could do this in HR as well but it was very innovative for its time.  A no damage run may be possible as well.  For any one who played it and is about to say that a no kill run is impossible, it really is possible.  At a certain point the game will try to force you to kill a certain character but it is possible to get past them by tricking the AI into a panic and getting them to open a door.

Overall Deus Ex is still 1st on my top 10 list of single player games.  No one else has been able to capture the same kind of magic that I have with Deus Ex.  Some have come close, but not close enough.

It's so simple.  Don't like a game?  Don't buy it, don't download it.  Don't give the publishers a scapegoat as to why their game was awful in the first place.  I've done this with many games, ME3 included.

There are so many good games out there that boycotting a game should be completely painless.

This Saturday starting at 10am PST I will be hosting a Terraria server for the entire weekend.  Everything must start from scratch, world and characters included.  In addition to inviting people from here, I've invited people from the LANs I host and a few online friends.  The goal is simple: have fun while attempting to conquer Terraria start to finish.

I will be allowing people to undertake a popular challenge in the Terraria community.  It's known as the Merfolk challenge.  It's a very straightforward challenge.  When you start out I will give you a fish bowl and a Neptune's Shell.  You must wear these two items at all times.  What this does is reverse your breathing.  If you stay out of water for too long, you will drown, and you will die.  This challenge is totally optional.  I wouldn't suggest undertaking it unless you're fairly experienced or insane.   ^-^

If you're interested, PM me, post in here, or send me a message on Steam for the details.  I won't put the details in here because of possible griefers.

Might want to request Tran to zap you back to the Overworld. But it'll likely entail erasing your player file. Better make a list of what you had.

I didn't really mind.  Every time I checked there was no one on anyways.  :\

Off Topic / Re: Windows 8 Consumer Beta!
« on: March 01, 2012, 09:06:23 AM »
I just love how the server edition feels.  The regular edition is your typical bloated Windows OS according to the screenshots and comments I've seen.  The server edition is very stripped down and barebones.  It's like comparing a typical car to a race car.  In a typical car you've got all of these extra gismos and luxuries that weigh down the car.  In addition to performance parts in racing cars you have none of that.  If I do get Windows 8 it will have to be one of the server editions.  Everything just feels right.

From what i know of it, you actually can not go back to the old start menu. It is gone. Poof. Even the start button took a dive.

What I think you can do is go back to using the desktop instead of the Start Screen (new implementation of the start menu).

I'm still stuck with the Win8 start button so that sadly may be true.  Luckily I found that the search feature is still implemented, so not all is lost.

Another neat thing I found is that the audio options goes up to 32bit, 192000hz now.  I'm not sure if that would even make an audible difference provided you had the equipment that could actually take advantage of that but it is still nice nevertheless.

I will be skipping Win8 as long as possible and here's why. The current trend is mobile devices, and the problem is that everyone seems to focus on that now, instead of the traditional desktop experience. They seem to forget that PC's still exist. The Windows tile interface is useless to PC users. Ubuntu is going the same path. Unity sucks and HUD is bullexcrement. Here soon I will be switching to Mint. It's sucks, and I'm not going to encourage it.

For clarification I use Win7 on my desktop, and Ubuntu on my laptop (my main computer)

I feel the same way.  If I can't get Win8 for extremely cheap or free via Dreamspark I'll just stick with Vista until Win9 rolls around.  While I like a lot of the features of Win8 they don't justify a $200 or even $100 price tag.

*shrugs* If you can get the source code...Or start from scratch. But it ain't even twitching yet. :P

It would be all original code.  I don't like looking at other people's code unless it's strictly for learning purposes.  Besides, from what I've heard the source code is public and isn't really anything to be desired of.  I've heard the entire thing from the architecture of the code to the code itself is very very amateur.

That's not to mention I would want to sell it.   ;D

Off Topic / Windows 8 Consumer Beta!
« on: March 01, 2012, 01:53:04 AM »
As I'm sure you people have heard Microsoft released the Windows 8 Consumer Beta today.  If you haven't, well now you know.

What are your thoughts on it?  Do you want to know anything about it?  I'm currently running the server version so if you have any questions or want pics just ask me.

So far for me it is a bittersweet experience.  I like all of the new features and I love how easy it is to get the server edition to run games.  All I had to do was install the nVidia drivers and I was good to go.  What infuriates me is the new start menu.  I just simply hate it.  They tried to optimize it for tablets and it just doesn't play well on a PC.  The Vista/7 start menu was a lot more productive on a PC environment.  I think you can switch back to the original start menu but I haven't seen that option yet.

Below are the download links for the two versions.  If you're willing to try it out I would suggest going with the regular Windows 8 Beta.  While Server 8 Beta is easy to use most of you probably won't put the extra features to test.

I am also very sad that EA/Bioware is stopping me from finishing one of my favorite series'.  I really liked ME1 and 2 and was looking forward to 3...  But like you said we vote with our wallets.

On that note: I'm actually considering purchasing a collectors edition of Skyrim with the near sole purpose of paying Bethesda more money for their game.  The other reason being I have boxed copies of the rest of the series, I'd like to keep up the trend.

Are there even new copies of the collector's edition left?  I would think by now they would all be bought up.

I feel the same way about Skyrim.  If I had more cash on hand I would have gotten the collector's edition just to thank Bethesda.  As it was I had no problems paying the extra $10 for the standard edition.  I can't say I would feel the same for most games.
