Crysis 2 DirectX11 Support Coming
« on: June 25, 2011, 12:59:25 AM »
[float=left][attach=1][/float] At long last, Crysis 2 players on the pc side of things can rejoice! Crytek will be releasing the 1.9 patch on June 27th, containing a "high resolution pack" and game support for directX11. Crytek's CEO calls the improvement a "sneak peak of how PC gaming will evolve in the future." No word on how much the boost will effect performance but if it is anything like the lower settings, the game should still be more optimized than its predecessor and run smoother.

Glad they're finally doing it. Still find Crysis 2 a huge disappointment.

I think it had its pros and cons.  The graphics and sprawling levels were reduced by a fair margin, but a lot of that was balanced out by significantly better artistic design and a better story.  The core gameplay was also mostly intact, which was nice.

UPDATE

Some users were able to grab the update pack while it was shortly listed on Crytek's site. Some screenshots comparing the two modes have emerged.

Very nice improvements. Hopefully the water will have improved reflections as well.

my computer is not either, however, the pc my parents bought to replace their older one has a 5770 in it. I am thinking of installing it out there after the 27th to see how things have improved myself. really looking forward to it if it is possible.

A 5770 runs Crysis 2. Tested it out myself. Don't know how well it'll go with the added DX11 stuff though.

There's... a difference aside from the (admittedly, very good) reflections?

Not in the above screenshots, no.

Strange thing is that it was still in my library AND playable after that excrement happened. I suppose that if I happen to need to re-download it in the future, it won't be avalable and I'll get a refund.

I suspect now that you have it it's good to go permanently.  But you'd have to contact Valve to be sure.

They have a really stupid reason why it was pulled from steam also. Its really stupid, Steam is a download service, they shouldn't care if a game is on a different platform or not. http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/06/16/crysis-2-steam-removal-not-an-ea-decision/

If you cant re-download it I would suggest you call up Valve and demand a refund... Still sucks though.

That is... idiotic. A lot of games on Steam are cross platform. Including some of Valve's own.

Five bucks says they're just being petulant because of Origin

Actually, the precise change and other download service haven't been divulged:

Quote
The nature of the change in terms that prompted Crytek to remove Crysis 2 from Steam is unclear, as is the identity of the other download service.

Could indeed be regarding Origin or some other download service. Which are the digital download services that offer Crysis 2?

Or it could mean that steam doesn't accept a digital download PC title that has timed exclusives with another download service. Notice that I'm not refering to distributor-specific preorder bonuses. More like a post-launch timed DLC only available in Origin for a couple of months.

If the latter is the case, that could well stop ME3 from being sold on steam for example. Could.

Haven't checked exactly, but I'm pretty sure I'm getting less than 30 FPS with both DX11 features and high res textures installed. Was getting an average of 45 without.

UPDATE: Patch released alongside the higher resolution textures. With dx11 enabled and settings to ultra, the 5770 does chug along at a nice 23fps. Welcome back crysis elete, I missed you  :-*

DirectX 11 Ultra Upgrade for Crysis 2

I would go so far as to say Crytek has reclaimed the best looking game (pc or console). Now we wait for battlefield 3.
