Aww.... I was really hoping they would have split. They deserved it after all the Rape they put up with, both literal and political.

The whole "oppression" thing is quite overplayed. England and Scotland entered a voluntary union in 1707 and before that, during the middle ages yes the English did invade but it was really just one set of noble douches fighting another set of noble douches, The only thing that changed is what color Scotland was painted on the map. Braveheart does a very poor job of representing this, the Scottish nobility sought to retain their power against the more powerful English nobility. Neither side really gave two excrements about the peasantry. This was before the idea of a nation state existed you see.

While not really political news, a excrement-ton of nudes from famous actresses just got dropped on 4chan, but I'm only aroused by the mini-gun for sale on GunBroker. Does this mean I'm gay?

Both of these things are relevant to my interests... for science of course  :P

Alright, I'm going to give my basic opinion on the Palestine-Israel conflict

First, the only real "claim" anyone can have to a piece of land is having the strength to control it, either the military strength or political strength. Israel has both, they've played the political game well and gained powerful allies, and they've fought and won three times against other, larger more powerful nation states. Have injustices been done to the Palestinians? Yes, I'm not claiming Israel is a saint, they've got plenty of blood on their hands, but human history is full of one group of people committing injustices to another, this isn't likely to change. pretty much every nation has a group of people who have has their lands taken off of them and been oppressed sometimes in the past, the Native Americans, the Welsh, Scottish, the Sami, Basques... I can go on. I don't know what makes the Palestinians and Jews so special.

Second of all, I don't think there's any doubt that Hamas has belligerent intentions towards Israel. In the real world, when a nation state (which the Palestinians want to be recognized as) declares war, or makes belligerent actions towards another state, that state in entitled to respond in kind, in political circles this is known as a state of war. It doesn't really matter the nature of the attacks, the only reason we have "proportionate response" laws is to prevent nuclear weapons being thrown about. If mexico launched artillery strikes on US bases and cities near the border and declared war on the US I think the US would be well within its right to invade Mexico and crush them with all of the conventional power it can muster, that what happens when you declare war on a stronger power. Ask Georgia what happens when you mess with the bear.

Not quite the high water mark but pretty close to it, since then I acquired Edirene from the Ottomans and released Byzantium and Brandenburg gave me a bunch of hungarian provinces in a peace deal, none of which I particularly wanted...

Spoiler for Hiden:

Embarrassingly I don't know how to take those world view screenshots, so here's the PLC circa 1540

Spoiler for Hiden:

Had a couple of good wars vs the ottomans, managed to get a couple provinces off of them and released Bulgaria as a vassal. Eventually I plan to get the rest of bulgaria then diplo-annex them, then take a greek province and release the Byzantines as a puppet and do that all over again. Should work. I'm honestly more worried about Muscovy than the ottomans at this point.

Because I am lazy, here is a screenshot album to my Hansa game.

Why didn't you form germany at that point? Or did you not have all the provinces you needed?

I think you're only missing niederbayern in bavaria

That's the spirit.

Well I started a poland game and I think I may have had the worst luck I've ever had in a game of EUIV. I won't go into the details but it ended in Russia declaring war on me after a long series of conflicts in Germany when my armies were just rebuilding.

So thats a complete do-over.

Bad Crane, the Bourbons were stout Catholics. You should be oppressing the Huguenots, not embracing them.

I would but when you are at war with Austria and 75% of France flips over to Protestant you don't argue, you go with the flow.

I'm about to start a Poland game where I will stay catholic no matter what.

And now this is the point where you conquer Europe and unite it under the French Catholic Monarchy...

I would, except I may or may not be protestant...

Half my country went protestant during the reformation, so I went with the flow

Holy excrement he still exists.

Anyways, I ran my first test session of Edge of The Empire yesterday. It was a rousing success, and the players gently-carressed the story sideways so fast that they solved half the problems before they happened. lol

I was turned off of this because of specialty dice, but I may have to look into it. After playing Star Wars: Saga I really like Star Wars RPGs.

So I decided to try and play France in EUIV to see what all the fuss was about (about them being OP ans such), and well, yeah. In less than 100 (1535 ATM) years I've conquered half of Italy, most of the Netherlands, I've ripped Austria apart by taking Trent then releasing Styria as a puppet (vassal feeding is a lot easier than conquest) I;ve occupied England three times, giving scotland most of northern England (and then they proceeded to lose it to nationalism, I guess that there really will always be an england) and I've defeated Spain in war and taken some stuff off of them as well. This is nuts...

Gallen felt the impact of the arrow hit the dead body on top of him. With that he threw the body off of him and moved around the outside of the melee, hoping to throw off the archer's aim by putting the swirling melee between him and them. He shouted to the mages.

"Keep those archers heads down up there!"

After that he moved into the melee with the heavy bandits and attacked the nearest one.

I'm thinking...Kromaggs. Specifically, a joint CRRF/Mars Corps Security Force exercise, that goes missing.

You mean we find some humanoid primate aliens that want to kill us all?

I'm down with that

I wonder why there were no mighty horse archer empires before the Mongols. I mean, it seems to me that the horse archers were the strength of the Mongol horde, so if horse archers are really that good, why weren't more using them?

It wasn't just horse archers, the muslims used horse archers and light infantry/cavalry against the crusaders, sometimes it worked (eg Hattin) other times they got their faces smashed in by european heavy cavalry. The mongols combined the nomadic/steppe warrior archery with organization and heavy cavalry that could go toe to toe with European knights or Mameluke heavy cavalry.

Intake Station 5, High Orbit, Mars

The Martian Intake Stations were like giant orbital tourist centers, or so the pilot told Aresh Patel as they docked. Patel had previously been a low paid engineer, working on a massive Indus River dam project when Mars Corp contacted him. They offered him a considerable sum to design and build water pumps to supply a new factory city being built. The money would ensure he lived comfortably for life.

His Intake Group were all the same, engineers and scientists from the huge third world development projects going on on Earth, all lured to Mars by massive salaries and promises of getting to work with the most up to date technology and people in the industry.

As the group left the shuttle they were filed into a massive theater room. As they took their seats a movie began to play.

"Welcome to Mars, and to your new life at Mars Corp."

The scene was a productive factory, with various shots of factory workers and managers working together, propaganda, but not as corny as it could be.

"Here at Mars Corp we believe in strong work ethic, strong sense of community and a belief that anyone can rise to any position. We're dedicated to producing our products to the highest standard, and you'll be working with industry professionals with years of experience."

The video dragged on for a bit, explaining the structure of Mars Corp, and showing more happy workers, however near the end the tone of the video began to change.

"At Mars Corp we want you not to think that you're joining a company, but changing your way of life. You're giving up your old life as a Terran and becoming something else, a Martian Human. Mars is stable, prosperous and well protected, we have a powerful military and are on the cutting edge of technology. You'll be safe and free to secure your financial future free form terrorism or crime or government intervention here on the Red Planet."

So... the Mongols...

Just reinstalled M2TW again, started playing an unfinished England campaign. I was in a really good position to win quickly, I had the holy land, I had most of france and could support several large armies in the field. Suddenly... Mongols!

Five massive death stacks show up around Jerusalem and immediately declare war on me. They assault Jerusalem with two of these stacks, I destroy one but take so many casualties that I lose to the other, I did manage to kill one of their awesome generals though. I expected to lose jerusalem though, I only really had some militia and some heavy infantry there, no major loss. Things get more interesting when they attack gaza, where i have a massive army full of armored swordsmen, longbowmen and knights hospitaller. I sallied forth, confident in victory with a slight numerical advantage and got completely stomped.

I'll try and recount the battle. Basically I sallied forth with my whole army and set up a standard battle line, archers in front of a line of heavy infantry, heavy cav covering the flanks. They sent up a ton of archers and cavalry archers, which not only completely outshot my longbowmen but also started to rip my infantry apart. Behind the archers was a line of their heavy cav, just sitting there. I sent my knights to deal with the archers and then hopefully pull back before the mongols counter charged. The archers and cav archers retreated past the line of heavy cav and to either side. My cav caught them and started massacring the archers, but they actually put up enough fight to slow the knights down. Meanwhile, with my knights out of the way the mongol cavalry charged my infantry line, and it went very badly for my infantry, I've faced charges by some of the nastiest heavy cav in europe but nothing swept my infantry aside as fast as this, needless to say my inf died quick and my army collapsed.

So how do I beat these guys? they can put shoot, out fight and out maneuver me
