Dead Space, Amnesia, and other horrors
« on: February 17, 2013, 12:14:50 PM »
I think it's about time we got a thread like this. It's quite overdue, actually. On this thread we can discuss the many horror games out there, counting in everything between Dead Space and Clocktower to Amnesia and Siren Blood Curse.

First off, I never thought I would say this, but I love Dead Space. It's the first game I've ever played that I have found genuinely thrilling :woot:

Also, I think I may have found a liking in the survival horror genre. And I think I'll test that theory in Amnesia after I'm done with Dead Space :sorcerer:

Keep calm and move along.

I've always heard it's a horror survival :|

Eh, no matter, it was the first game I've ever played that had some element of fear in it. And that's also why I'll try Amnesia later; in case Dead Space can't be classified as horror, I'll have to play a real horror game before I can say I like the genre :P

Keep calm and move along.

Actually Rakia. It was a Horror game. It had all the elements to be one in the first game, you played a silent protagonist, sound and music heightened tension and sometimes threw you off (Like Amnesia), and plenty of jump scares.

However much of that changed in the next two games.

DS3 is a full blown shooter, since you no longer ave to collect specific ammo types, its a lot harder to run out of ammo now, making you less cautious with gun use like the first two.

Oh man, my favorite horror game of all time was System Shock 2. The atmosphere, the sounds, the tension, the audio logs, and SHODAN herself. It's truly what everything I want in a sci-fi horror game.

Speaking of that, System Shock 2 is out on GOG. Buy it now!

I don't quite get what is so scary with System Shock 2. By its looks, it doesn't seem scary at all :|

It has a lot of elements horror games currently use. Noises that lead nowhere, surprise attacks, empty corridors with bodies strew around, people getting slaughtered in front of you on the other side of a window/door, ghostly apparitions, etc. All in all, it was an excellent game at the time.

oh, apparently some type of very "disturbing" story dlc is supposed to come out for DS3 in a few weeks, if they make it console only again i'm gonna piss on Visceral
