The engineers had the easier time of it, as the pod seemed built to be easily moved, with just a few cables that needed to be unplugged. The scientist's however were having a harder time, as there was little more than a few buttons, and some holographic alien writing that they couldn't discern.
After the Engineers gave their diagnosis, the Scientists gave it an hour but ultimately decided that they would need access to the full set of their tools on either Hydros or Leticia. So with that in mind, the crew comm'ed back to the main ship and got the authorization to bring the cryo pod on board

With the authorization, the Engineers went to retrieve their Hover Trolley from the shuttle which they used to load up the Cryo-pod. Before cutting the power, the Engineers prepared the backup battery they had brought up with them and then to ensure so failsafes were triggered, carefully moved to splinter the power source with the Battery so that the battery would kick in the moment the main cryo-pod was disconnected.

This entire process took several hours of careful maneuvering, but soon they finished and walked the cryo-pod back to the shuttle.

Soon the crew made it back in board the ASEF where the Cryo-pod was brought to one of the holding cells and wired into the ships generators. Once on board, they made a jump back to Leticia through Salacia to drop off the Cryo-pod

The pod was put into quarantine, while scientists and other civilian experts prepared to open and study the pod. In the meanwhile, the ASEF had a choice to continue its mission, or relax for a little R&R.

The crew looked at the strange derelict, curious and concerned over what might have torn the ship apart. Eventually the Captain gave the order for the Enterprise's marine detachment to investigate, running scans on the ship before launching a dropship towards it.

Additional scans of the derelict vessel showed no signs of life on board the ship. Once the drop ship arrived, the ship was much smaller than they were led to believe, With most of the ship setup as rubble, it wouldn't take long to search the bow

With the pod and research data handed over to the Letician Research teams, the crew decided to spend a week on some R&R. After several months in the void, it was a well overdue break and one which the crew took great advantage of as they relaxed on the planet the Arcadonian people considered 'paradise'.

After going through standard quarantine procedures, the ki'jan charged with studying the alien cryo-pod began their work in earnest. They began with a series of standard chemical and sensor tests, trying to determine the makeup of the pod, what it was made of and what it might be emitting. So far tests revealed the metal was an unknown substance, which in itself prompted further study for later. In the meantime however, the priority was to uncover the contents of the cryo-pod. To their surprise however, before they even tried to open, some hidden mechanism caused the pod to open by itself. The scientists all took a few steps back out of caution, before looking in from a distance to see what was inside. Inside were six, leathery and fleshy looking eggs, larger than their heads with a criss-cross slit on the top.

As the marine detachment worked their way through the ship, they found that the interior was just as damaged as the exterior. Everything was charred pitch black and partially melted and it continued like this until they came across a door which was welded shut

The Pod itself was inside of a closed off quarantined room with the see through wall which allowing the scientists to see into the room. Even more so than the pod opening on its own though, the scientists were more surprised at the sight of the eggs.

One of the scientists turned to another which was sitting at some holographic scenes and began to speak. "Can you order some tests for us? Have the bio-arm take some x-rays and ultrasound scans. Make sure we also get a tissue and draw embryonic sample. I want to see whats in those eggs."

The platoon commander made a gesture, and a thermite charge was laced around the door and ignited, a bright light lit the entire room as the thermite burned through the door. Then a shaped charge was placed on the door, while the marines took up a breaching position. The charge detonated, blasting the door open, followed by the marines moving into the room, weapons at the ready and covering all angles.

"Right away Doctor" said the scientist as he made the necessary arrangements. However as he was doing so one of the eggs began to open...which shouldn't have happened...

As soon as the soldiers breached the room, they were immediately caught with the sight of sixty or so half burned and charred skeletons. Some of them with clothing still. The room itself looked to be the central command room with one of the bodies sitting in what appeared to be the central control chair having bits of clothing and metals melted into its own body.

Several bodies were right in front of the door the soldiers had breached in a clawing position. In front of some control panels was crew laying half over various consoles with half melted weapons beside them. The room itself was burned to a crisp and stained a dark red

All in all, it was a quite horrifying sight that reminded the soldiers of images from the aftermath of historical bomb sites.

As one of the eggs began to open, the doctor turned to another scientist. "As protocol dictates, prime the Thermal Charge. We need to be prepared to purge the quarantine chamber should anything necessitate it" The Doctor turning back to the other scientist working the Bio-Arm. "Continue."

The marines were shocked at the scene before them, clearly a massacre had taken place in this room, long ago it appeared. The marines though quickly regained their composure, many were veterans of the Vox Populi Insurgency, some even from the second Space War, charred skeletons were not new to them. Video feed from their enclosed helmets were played live on the Enterprise's CinC.

"Lieutenant" said the Captain "Do a slow sweep of that room, see what you can find, perhaps a clue as to what happened here."

The sample were taken without issue, with the exception of the embryonic sample, as the needle attempting to take the sample was promptly melted by the incredibly strong acid inside. Meanwhile a creature emerged from the open egg, it was a pale yellowish colour, with a long muscular tail and eight long, bony finger-like legs as well as some sort of leathery pouch extending from its side. It didn't make a move for the machinery or the scientists on the other side, but just simply stood there, as if taking its surroundings.

The soldiers did their slow sweep of the room, going through everything with a fine comb. Up close the scene was much worse than afar with scratches and light holes in the walls and floor. Glass was cracked and in general everything had been touched.

Soon one of the soldiers came to the body of the one sitting in the chair in the center of the room. At first it appeared that it was only metals that were melted into its half-charred skin, but upon closer examination he had discovered that the body had it's fist sightly clenched, to the point that it was half melted together. Inside the fist was a small, dark purple crystal.

"Hmm, interesting" the Doctor spoke as the readings began to come up on the main monitor. "Run a scan of the creatures brainwaves. We need to find out if it's sentient, or just a regular animal"

Once that was out, the doctor moved up to one of the terminals and flicked a switch before speaking into a microphone. In the chamber, the voice eliminated from the corner of the room. "Hello. Can you hear me"

There was no response from the creature, while the brain scan proved oddly...inconclusive. They appeared to have trouble scanning the creature, while the creature itself just idly moved from one spot to another.

FTL Result: Arrived on Time (6 days)
Event Result: No Event

Spoiler for System:
Hex: 5, 6     Total Resources: 70
White Normal    Midlife    Normal Radiation
17RP   Gas Planet   Uninhabitable   No Life
   4RP   Rings   T1   No Life
   8RP   Moon   T3   Simple Life

5RP   Gas Planet   T2   Multi Cellular
   9RP   Rings   T1   Complex Life

13RP   Terrestrial Planet   T2   No Life
   3RP   Moon   T4   Complex Life

8RP   Gas Planet   T2   Single Cellular
   3RP   Moon   T2   Complex Life

The Stargazer arrived at a main phase white star system uneventfully, with three gas giants, a planet and a number of moons. There were two habitable moons within the system, the first one orbiting the gas giant, facing the star and receiving just enough heat to support simple life. The moon was mostly a tundra, with a thin strip of habitable land around its equator, which was mostly rocky shores constantly swept by freezing rain. Life included some hardy fish species, which thrived in the sub-zero temperature waters. The habitable moon was much more friendly to life, a green and blue backdrop which contained a tropical rainforest, surrounding a large sea which had formed in a crater. The moon was host to multiple complex lifeforms, including a large gorilla-like creature, which had a rhino-like hide with tufts of fur on its head, chest and shoulders. The system itself was economically profitable, with plenty of hydrogen and helium, as well as large deposits of copper, iron, gold and diamond.

The crew of the Stargazer took in all information they could gather from the system, this seemed like a perfect system for a second wave of colonization to captain Beyla, a rich system full of life without any of the hazards they found in previous systems.

After spending a few days in the system the Stargazer made a final jump back to the Tawe system, the ship would stay there for a short time to refuel and do maintenance that couldn't be done during their mission.

There was no response from the creature, while the brain scan proved oddly...inconclusive. They appeared to have trouble scanning the creature, while the creature itself just idly moved from one spot to another.

Seeing this, the doctor and half a dozen other of the scientists put their hands to their face in a confused manner. The doctor turned to one of the scientists "Can you get some X-Rays of it's skeletal and Ultrasound of it's organ system up on the screen." The doctor turning to the controller of one of the bio arms. "Use the Spectral Laser to get a chemical composition of it's blood stream."

The doctor then walked over to a pair of other scientists "How are the other eggs doing?"

With the pod and research data handed over to the Letician Research teams, the crew decided to spend a week on some R&R. After several months in the void, it was a well overdue break and one which the crew took great advantage of as they relaxed on the planet the Arcadonian people considered 'paradise'.
After their week on paradise, the crew finally re boarded the ship. They were sad to leave, but ultimately it was their duty to explore the cosmos for the good of the Arcadonian Empire.

Before they left, the crew waved their goodbyes to the people which had some to see them off, and then took off to the edge of the system where they they jumped back to Salacia, then continued on to their next system

FTL Result: Arrived on Time (12 days)
Event Result: Derelict Ship

Spoiler for System:
Hex: 5, 7     Total Resources: 45
White Normal    Midlife    Normal Radiation
14RP   Artificial Planet   T5   Single Cellular
   9RP   Moon   T2   No Life

4RP   Terrestrial Planet   T1   No Life
   9RP   Rings   T1   Organic Compounds
9RP   Gas Cloud   T1   No Life

Upon arriving in system, the crew found itself in a relatively normal system with two planets. On the first planet was a paradise filled with various Single Cellular lifeforms ranging from bacteria to viruses. The planet itself was high in resources and contained a moon which also contained a moderate amount of resources.

On the other planet everything was more disappointing. The planet itself was outside of the habitable region of the star, and contained a low amount of resources. But what it lacked in tangible goods, it made up for in beauty. The planet had high mountain ranges and low valleys. In orbit around the planet was rings made of rock and colourful gas, both which contained valuable materials. Any miner would appreciate this planet.

Upon further scans of the system though, the Stargazer picked up a rather peculiar signature. On the planet itself there was another ship which appeared to have crashed on a mountain range by the ocean.

Somewhere in the galaxy, in orbit around planet Ishanoth...

"T minus 5 minutes for jump." announces mission control.

The final countdown for the first jump towards uncharted space had started. This would be a fitting occasion for festivities back in the capital, but there was an ennormous sandstorm rolling through the reagion. All festivities would have to be postponed.

"Hope this goes as well as the jumps we made towards our other solar systems. Faster than light travel is sometimes so...finicky." said the commanding officer. There was another exploration vessel being service after its last jump, and it could be called back into active duty at a moment's notice, but it is always best not to lose ships, at all.

Hex: 5, 8     Total Resources: 29
Neutron Star    Midlife    High Radiation
22RP   Sub Star   Uninhabitable   No Life
   7RP   Moon   T1   No Life

The trip took longer than normal, but upon arriving in system the crew found that they had come across a Neutron Star which was at the middle of its lifespan. In a few millennia it would lose its long inevitable fight to Gravity and either collapse into a short lived Black hole or a beautiful Super Nova

Surrounding the star was a single sub star much smaller than the Neutron Star. It looked as if it had previously been a super gas giant which just absorbed too much Gas from it's host star on the transition phase to a neutron star that it ignited. The star itself was rich in Helium and Gas and Energy, but would require great expertise and more technology to successfully harvest.

Orbiting the Sub sun was a small moon host to no life on it. The moon itself had some heavy materials, and with the lack of atmosphere or life would be extremely easy to mine, although its proximity to the smaller sun had made the temperature on the planet run wild with it scorching the earth on one side and freezing it on the other.

The x-ray and ultrasound revealed nothing too unusual...the skeletal structure and organs seemed within normal deviations for such a creature. The spectral analysis however revealed something shocking to the scientists...the creature's blood was pure acid, more potent than anything they had seen before.

The other eggs meanwhile appeared to be dormant, at the moment it was unknown why this one egg had hatched. Perhaps the embryo inside had been closer to maturity than the others at the moment of cryo-freezing...

After their week on paradise, the crew finally re boarded the ship. They were sad to leave, but ultimately it was their duty to explore the cosmos for the good of the Arcadonian Empire.

14RP   Artificial Planet   T5   No Life

The ASEF arrived at a binary star system, a brown dwarf and an even smaller substar in close orbit. Orbiting the brown dwarf was a single gas giant, consisting of hydrogen, helium-3, methane and ethanol as well as smaller concentrations of other gasses. Surrounding the gas giant were three concentric rings, one orbiting diagonally while the other two formed an outer and inner ring orbit. The diagonal ring held vast economic potential, full of valuable metal ores and crystal deposits. Orbiting the gas giant as well were three moons, one of which held a thin atmosphere of nitrogen and oxygen, but also held a high concentration of chlorine, requiring gas masks for breathing. The two lifeless moons held significant deposits of metal ores, though the one habitable moon held little of value.

Orbiting the substar was an artificial object never seen before by the ki'jan. Set between the brown dwarf and substar, to get the most out of the limited heat and energy from the two of them, was a hollow world. The world was a geodesic icosahedron, with two vast silicate windows on either side, letting in the dim sunlight on two opposing landmasses on the interior, with a shell of durable metal made from the system. Going outwards from within were four orbital elevators/towers, connecting the world to four moons in orbit. Two of the moons were just barely habitable, containing nothing more than a barely breathable atmosphere of nitrogen and oxygen, while another moon was just a barren rock. The fourth moon was an altogether different story, it was unknown if there was a catastrophe or if it was natural, but the fourth moon was a radiation-blasted wasteland, inundated with lethal amounts of radioactive isotopes causing swirling radiation storms to rage on its surface. The moon however was absolutely rich in valuable materials, beyond a goldmine in the metals and other substances detected, even one unknown metal. However the moon was completely uninhabitable, hostile to all forms of life, making colonization impossible. The artificial world however...the interior was a paradise, the two super-continents connected by an immense elevator, with four diagonal openings on the outside leading in. Two rings and a gas cloud also orbited the world, likely acting as a source for much of the building material for this world.
I'm back people...

Captain Belya was about to comment on how rich the artificial planet was when the reports about the crashed spaceship came in. It seemed as if the momentum of time itself was stopped by the Adrenalin crashing into the captain's systems. His mind raced, thinking of every possibility, everything that could go wrong. Darkness crept into the corners of his vision and the movement of his hands seemed sluggish and shakily.

Run! His mind begged him Flee! argued his heart, while it thundered at incredible speed in Belya's head. This shouldn't be, this wasn't how it was supposed to go!

On this overdose of oxygen and energy Belya looked up, to his crew on their posts in the CIC. They looked scared, terrified, their expression ranged from pure horror to anger. Even his XO seemed frozen in place, the veteran of a dozen battles stood at his post with shaking knees.

He licked his lips, reminded of his duty as the unshakable leader of this ship, the unquestionable authority he wielded in the name of the Empire, and the incredible wisdom he was supposed to act in.

"Set condition 2 throughout the ship." His voice thundered in the ears of the crew of the Stargazer. But to Belya himself he sounded weak, soft and shaking with doubt.

His crew began to move, shocked into action by their captain.

"Scanning, give me something! Age! state of the crash site, remains of encampments set up by possible survivors! Signals coming from the planet, radio or otherwise!"

"Communication! First contact protocols! now!"

The crew stood petrified, unable to move as they saw the initial scans proving a non-kaveni ship existed on the world... but it wan't until the Captain finally managed to overcome his fear that the crew was able to snap out of it. With the orders, the crew now had something to work towards as they went to high alert and fired up the sensors in enhanced mode.

"Captain. The planet is dark. We aren't intercepting any transmissions coming from the world itself." The Communications Officer spoke up

"Geological Scans are putting the crash site at approximately two-hundred-fifty-three years ago" One of the Planetary Analysis Technicians responded

"The High Powered Telescope is sending visuals in now... We have signs of a small settlement near the base of the mountain, and about 5 klick's from the base near the ocean. As for the crash, it's reporting as much more violent than initial reports seemed to make us believe. Debris is scattered all over the mountain range with large portions still in tact at various elevations. It would have been a miracle if anyone survived at all"

"This really is quite amazing. We will need to update almost all of our models of life. That acidic blood stream itself is quite a brilliant mechanism of evolution. Just the processes required to not melt the creature for existing is, biologically beautiful."

Some of the other scientists in the room nodded at the comment before the doctor spoke up again. "We still need to determine whether its sentient or not. Sadly it doesn't appear our scans are working, so we will have to fall back to traditional methods." The doctor turned to the containment operator. "Can you polarize one of the walls into a mirror? We will begin with seeing if the creature is self-aware."

Before ariving in system, the crew of the ASEF were expecting to find another worn down system with relatively little of value to provide the empire. So upon actually arriving in system and finding the exact opposite, the crew was extactic.

By all accounts the system was perfect. Something that you would have only found in fiction now sitting in front of their eyes.

Looking over at the science officers and they looked completely stunned. Yes they had found a derelict space ship a few weeks back, but that was nothing compared to the amazement that came from the hollow Planet being physically connected to it's four moons via orbital elevator. Even before the marvels of engineering required to do such a feat, the science crew was thinking about the implications of having come across a planet which had unmistakably been visited by a sentient lifeforms much more advanced than they were.

It was all much to take in.

"Can we do a scan for any lifeforms? Is this system already inhabited, or has it been abandoned?"
