OOC: Survivors of the IV
« on: May 16, 2012, 07:33:48 PM »
Hello and welcome to the second attempt of a zombie survival RP. Hopefully it will go better than the last one, and I hope a lot of people want to try it out. This time I will be taking the role of my own main character as well as any side characters you'll meet. First comes the rules.

Rules

Since this is a zombie apocalypse, it is pretty much impossible for you to survive on your own. There are other survivors you will encounter along the way, but they will be controlled by the game master untill he or she says otherwise. Food and water is sometimes more valuable than guns to survive, so make sure to be well-supplied, and with the right kind of food. Also notice that this is the kind where zombies can often run, so react accordingly.

Equipment: I hope its clear that "Dual Gatling guns with a BFG 9000 on the side" is neither possible nor tolerated. Chances are, you will probably only get access to firearms and ammunition very rarely. You can have homemade firearms, so you can be creative if you want. Basically, keep it realistic. You start out with every-day clothes, but you can make your own armor if you got the material and the know-how. In the beginning you will not even have a rucksack, a map or binoculars. You will have to figure out where to find these things.

Combat: Combat will be decided through roll of the dice. When a player makes an attack, I will roll my magical fate-deciding die which will determine the outcome. A result in 1 or 2 will be a miss; 3 and up will be a hit, and the higher the number, the more damage the attack does. However, this is the standard roll. Circumstances will greatly affect the outcome, so don't try to kill a zombie with a hammer if your arms are broken.

Traveling: Traveling is best done during the day, since zombies magically avoid sunlight. But you will still find stragglers here and there. Most major highways are blocked by cars or sealed off, but you can get certain distances with a car on some roads. And when you get to a new area like a store, I will give a brief description of the place.

Infection: The outbreak is believed to be cause by a virus. Although all players are somehow immune to the virus, you should watch out for other people that might have been bitten. Transformation takes between 20 minutes and 24 hours, depending on how resistant the your body is. But it is inevitable and incurable. The virus is spread through the zombies' saliva and blood (28 days later, anyone?)

And now: the character sheet.

Skin color: White
Height: 6"2' (190cm)
Weight: 201lbs (91kg)
In-depth description: A man of average height and pretty well-trained from eight years at the gym. He keeps his hair short and has a thick stubble on his chin.
Mental state: Slightly unstable; paranoid
Intelligence: Slightly above average
General outlook: Neutral, but suspicious
Fears: Being betrayed
Biases: None
Sexual orientation: Straight
Particular skills: Hunting, sniping, tracking, spotting, and surviving off what is available.
Flaws: Not easily trusting and not very good in close-quarters, Nikolai is not much use without a rifle with a scope as of now. He will have to adapt.

Equipment: Green t-shirt, blue jeans, black sneakers, black leather jacket and a white cap. Carries a baseball bat tied in a thin rope around his chest with a water bottle tied into the rope.

Background: Nikolai was born into a poor Soviet family in St. Petersburg. Through his early years his parents struggled to feed him and his two siblings. Being a full-hearted Communist, Nikolai believed the world had truly ended when the Soviet Union collapsed in 1989. But he eventually embraced the new Capitalistic system as his life slowly got better, and he abandoned his Communist ideals, as they had done him no favors. Nikolai started trying his way through jobs and eventually settled in Moscow where he joined the police force. However, he was kicked out after three years when he angered the wrong person. This eventually led to divorce with his wife as she did no longer think he could support her or their two daughters. Nikolai was caught completely off guard when the Apocalypse came, but managed to survive the chaos and get out of Moscow.
Spoiler for David Smith=Grif101:
Name: David Smith

Hair color: Dark brown
Skin color: White
Height: 6"5' (198cm)

In-depth description: David is a tall man of athletic build, and is in good shape. Though the zombie apocalypse took him by surprise, he has managed to keep cool-headed. He is somewhat obsessed with rejoining his unit, and finds it hard to work with civilians. He isn't really compassionate and is very pragmatic.
Mental state: Stable, cool-headed, focused, pragmatic.
Intelligence: Higher than average, but he's no genius
General outlook: Neutral, mainly concerned with rejoining his unit
Fears: That he's the last Canadian soldier alive
Biases: None
Sexual orientation: Straight

Particular skills: Military combat training, accomplished hand-to-hand specialist
Flaws: Trained to fight as a unit, not alone. Not used to interacting with civilians, and can be cold and ruthless more often than not

Equipment: Pack, average clothing, a little food and water, combat knife

Background: David was born in Vancouver. He was born to a military family, and naturally when he turned 18 he joined the Canadian Forces. During Basic Infantry Qualification David earned multiple commendations and awards for close-combat training (hand-to-hand). David was on leave when the plague struck, and was unable to report for duty. He doesn't even know if his unit is even still alive, or if there's even still a Canada. His main priority is find and rejoin his unit, and failing that, survive and do as much damage to the zombie horde as possible.
Spoiler for Ibrahim Mustafa=Ragez:

Travelling abroad due to his company's orders, the zombie apocalypse caught him completely off guard. He somehow managed to survive, but his survival skills, other than what he was taught as a teenager during a month-long camping trip, are rather lacking. He's quite easy to get along with, and trusts others rather easily, but is very unaccustomed to seeing people die in front of him.

Mental state: Stable, slightly panicky, analytic, and focused.
Intelligence: Rather high, being an engineer.
General outlook: Neutral, mainly concerned with survival.
Fears: That his home country is also overrun with zombies.
Biases: None
Sexual orientation: Straight

Particular skills: Being an engineer, he has skills with machines, chemicals, and electrical items and appliances. He has an average hold on firing weaponry, hunting as a pastime in his youth, but is no soldier at it. Hand-to-hand is mainly what he learned in street brawls, which is useful at times, but is no equal to real training.
Flaws: Not especially good at combat, rather basic survival skills, and is not used to death.

Equipment: Suitcase, average clothing, a little food and water, and a knife looted off a dead man's body (Not a combat knife).

Background: Ibrahim was born in Bahrain, to an average middle-class family. His father worked as a butcher, and his mother a nurse; making his acquirement of a scholarship (which is difficult to obtain in Bahrain) necessary to go to a good university. After graduating with a 3.9 GPA, he found a great job working for as an engineer for a large company. On the day the plague struck, Ibrahim was abroad on a job given to him by his company; scrambling to safety when the zombies appeared and managing to survive the first wave by hiding. His main priority is to find out if his family is alright.

Mental state: Stable
Intelligence: Average
General outlook: Fairly hopeful that things will return to normal, fun loving
Fears: Being alone
Biases: A little sexist (Though it is something that can be worked past, if the right person presents themselves)
Sexual orientation: Heterosexual

Particular skills: Driving, working on cars, street wise (Pick Locking, and other skills), Upper body strength
Flaws: Not skilled with guns, Might not be able to kill another uninfected Human without guilt, His sexist tendencies makes him lust after girls.

Equipment: Clothes, being his T-shirt, Jeans, whatever is in his wallet, a Leather jacket and an overcoat, He has a Metal baseball bat, a large adult sized heavy one, a flashlight and a bowling ball bag (Remove the bag if you wish, it is mostly there for hilarity.)

Background: Roman was born into the USSR, and as he grew up he only desired to leave, and is something he managed to do at the fall of the Soviet Union. He left for the United States to build a life for himself, where he started as a dock worker in New York and eventually became a Taxi Driver in New York, and opened his own Taxi service that had a base in New York city and Chicago. Of course this took hard work on his part, and in that time he had his run ins with shady crowds being a gambler and risk taker, he had to deal with loan sharks and such, and so became streetwise. His need to work with cars also got him familiar with how vehicles work. He even helped to make a taxi that ran on by-products such as vegetable oils and other biological oils, this taxi was usually driven by him in his New York business. He had tried to settle down but his fun loving life never got him anywhere with women, and the prospects look much grimmer in the prospect of a Zombie apocolypse. He is a Cousin to Nikolai, who he calls Niko. His relationship has been strained with his cousin, and in an effort to reconnect with his Cousin and other family. He headed out to Europe and then to Russia, where he had hoped to hang out with his cousin whom he had not heard from in such a long time, maybe to go clubbing, find himself a Wife from his homeland and go Bowling with his cousin, a past time he enjoyed in America. Currently he finds himself outside of Moscow, as the breakout made traffic halt up entirely so he is attempting to survive and find his cousin.

He received several wounds at the hands of the mujahideen. During that war he lost all faith in the Soviet Union, but stayed in the military out of loyalty to the Russian people and because it was one of the few paying jobs left. After the war he stayed in the Red and then Russian air force until 2005 and then left for a large oil company in Siberia. He is married with two children, his family living in Vladivostok. At the time of the outbreak he was in Moscow on business. He managed to gather up some gear and get his hands on an entrenching tool and went looking for survivors.

You know, Russian or French Zombies would be pretty interesting. America, Germany and Great Britain is overdone.

...another interesting one would be a third world country or Australia (where everything is trying to kill you already)

Third world country = you're 100% gently-carressed. Australia maybe, but there would be very slim chance of surviving out in the heat of the wild.

And I personally like France the best, but I'm a bit unsure.

Keep calm and move along.

I actually realized that I had done that after I created it, so...

...deal with it.

And now we've got Canada as a suggestion. And either all options will be put up for voting, with only players being able to vote, or I finally decide where we should be and play dictator.

Keep calm and move along.

Border? What border, New Zealand is an island nation...unless you're talking about a maritime border...

Besides, if let's say Australia was unaffected by the zombie plague, the RAN would likely turn refugees away or even open fire on them, to prevent the plague from reaching Australia.

I don't think Sweden would be that fun, actually. We don't have any large cities, and there is not a single skyscraper in the entire country. The largest city is Stockholm, with a million people.

But maybe...

Let us welcome our first survivor: David Smith, aka Grif.

But Grif, I hope you don't mean a backpack when you wrote pack, because I stated clearly that you don't get to start with a backpack.

Also, because Grif was first is in the army IRL, he got the privilege of having the only character with military training.

I don't know of any other kind of pack. That's why I kinda wondered if you had meant another kind of pack I didn't know of.

Also, you just filled out a role in the maybe soon-to-be group. You know tactics and you can handle yourself in a fight, but you don't know excrement about building and repairing things, and you shouldn't be trusted with performing medical care.

I had initially planned for my character to be the only character with military training, like a former member of the French Foreign Legion, US Navy Seals, British SAS or maybe the GSG-9, but then I realized you know this excrement in real life and I don't know sqwat. So I'll have to come up with a new role to fill.

Nope. You'll have to find that stuff. This way you will get more things you need to think about in order to survive. What do you need? Food, water, medical equipment, ammo. But first and foremost a bag to carry everything in.

Now where could you find these things? Hmm...
