Can we get back on topic please?

I posted updated images on my project, and I am about to build a trash compactor.
Just need to figure out how redstone works! :D
Come look at my art.

Redstone isn't nearly as difficult as the Wall O Text on the wiki might make it seem. You just need a very basic understanding of cause and effect. Unless you're building an actual working computer like that one guy...

Yeah I've been playing with redstone+pistons lately too.  It's a bit confusing at times.

You can't just run the wires to the pistons if they're side by side. The wires will try to close circuits instead of connecting. You either have to make the wires end in alternating heights (one connects to a piston, the other one block below and so on), or use repeaters which force wires to connect instead of making circuits.

Which is 10 different kinds of frustrating if you are trying to make things work on more than just one level. :/

Indeed I could do that.
And yeah it would be, I need them to work on two levels.
I'm thinking that the compactor will be activated by pressure pads. :P

Try looking here:
http://hubpages.com/hub/How-To-Make-A-Minecraft-Piston-Powered-Retractable-Bridge

It is possible to create "piston walls" of at least 2 blocks of height. Even a wall with three blocks of height. I was able to make a door with 3 blocks of height. One has to only replicate that sort of thing as many times needed to make piston walls.

Oh!  Oh!  I see!  Briliant!  I think! :P  If that works how my mind is thinking it works I'll be testing it tonight and everything should proceed as I have foreseen. ;)

I'll likely post a video of some tricks I've come up with for abusing the pistons as well if I manage to make anything interesting. :D

Alright I have managed to get a 5 wide 3 tall chunk of pistons to all fire simultaneously.  I'm not quite sure -how- I've done this, or -why- it works but it does...

Here's some screenshots:

Ahhh... I see how you did that crushing trap.  Very nice.  adds a once cycle delay to the system though.

If it is distributed evenly amongst the pistons, that delay doesn't make much of a difference. And I prefer using repeaters to connect wires because it tends to make it much "tidier". Placing blocks in different heights so wires won't form circuits tends to get on my nerves.

People should be able to choose when and how a wire bends or connects. Period.  And wires should be placeable on walls and ceilings.

Different height blocks and repeaters are simply hacks to get around the game mechanics in that aspect.

Yes to all of the above.  However I also like intriguing challenges.  Which is why I built that redstone monstrosity I did :P

This deserves mention:
Minecraft: The TNT Mega Cannon Meets 500 Zombies

Too bad it used the piston mod which was the precursor for the official piston.
