Nations of the IV
« on: October 05, 2012, 10:49:16 PM »
Welcome to Nations of the IV! This PbP is part of the "* of the IV" game series where you play as 20th Century nation and focus on its every move. Are you Peaceful, Are you Hostile, Are you Neutral, Are you Scientific, Are you Religious... Its all up to you. Please enjoy yourselves as we go through an amazing time in our universe. HAVE FUN!

Not-IV allows you to play how you want. How you play is up to you. Follow the sections below to learn about each individual role, and help you decide which you want to play as.

For Nations:
 >:D

In the game you play as a Nation, playing the game through your interactions with the other empires in the game. In Nations there are no all-encompassing threats, like Empires' Galactic Threats or Kingdoms Threats of the Realm. Instead each nation has the potential to become a Global Threat, decided purely by your actions in the game. There is little in the way to stop you. By playing as a Nation it can allow you to build up your own alternative history storytelling Universe that one day you could end up using for something great... or for bragging rights, or to simply spruce up your dreams.

If you want to join the game, just fill out the Nation Sheet underneath this paragraph and post it in the OOC for Nations. I will then find it, take it, and add it to the second post -which is the universal Nations Database. If you would like to make any changes to it, just PM me the updated version, or post it in the OOC and I will swap it out for you.

The game begins with technology and politics all set to a "20th Century Standard" level, with a few minor alterations. What this means is that politics is fairly tense, technology is at a 20th century level and your actions will influence your nation and the world on variable levels. Through time you can chose to develop one or more of these areas, though developing multiple sectors takes significantly more time than sticking to one.

See the OOC thread for more rules regarding diplomatic actions, technology and so on.

Europe 1938

Player Grif101:
Spoiler for German Reich:
German Reich

Leader: Fuhrer Adolf Hitler

Territory: Germany, Austria, Rhineland, Sudetenland, New Swabia (Antarctica)

Nationality: German, German Austrians, Sudeten Germans and Czechoslovaks

Description of Nationality: The German people have had to live under the humiliating terms of the Treaty of Versailles for years. However in 1933 that all changed when Adolf Hitler rose to power as the Chancellor of Germany, and eventually as Fuhrer after the death of President Paul von Hindenburg. The average German is very supportive of Hitler and the Nazi regime. The German Reich is made out Germans, German Austrians, Sudeten Germans and Czechoslovaks.

Population: 79,375,281

Society: Society of Nazi Germany is not all too different from western society, though it is more conformist and corporatist, and propagandized.

Religion: Mix of Protestant and Catholic, though the population is becoming more Nazified and certain church officials are beginning to be pressured by Nazi officials.

Government: National Socialist Single-party State

Economy: Mixed economy

Military: The German military, recently renamed the Wehrmacht is once again a force to be reckoned with. It is a professional force of around 4,722,000 including auxiliaries in 1938. The Heer (Army) of the Wehrmacht has pioneered concepts such as combined-arms with the Luftwaffe and mission-based tactics. The Luftwaffe (Airforce) is also a professional airforce, who gained valuable combat experience during the Spanish Civil War, and concentrates on fighters and (small) tactical bombers, like the Messerschmitt Bf 109 fighter and the Junkers Ju 87 (Stuka) dive bomber. The Kriegsmarine (Navy) has few numbers of surface vessels, due to restrictions of the Washington and London Naval Treaties. However the Kriegsmarine does operate a formidable U-Boat fleet. The Wehrmacht also has the best officer corps among the world powers.

Technology: Currently the German Reich has a mix of modern and pre-war equipment, though German engineers and scientists are pioneering new technologies for the Reich.

National Focus: German nationalism, military might, racial purity

Background: The background of Nazi Germany follows the proper historical timeline until October 11th, 1938. Adolf Hitler rose to power as Chancellor in 1933, and became Fuhrer in 1934 following President Hindenburg's death. Germany pulled out of the League of Nations in 1933, in 1935 the Saarland rejoined Germany and the Rhineland was remilitarized. In 1936 Germany intervened in the Spanish Civil War in support of Franco's Fascists, and in 1938 completed its Anschluss of Austria and by October 10th had occupied the sudetenland in Czechoslovakia.

Alliances: Rome-Berlin Axis, Anti-Comintern Pact

Trading Agreements: Kingdom of Italy, Empire of Great Japan

Strengths: Currently the Wehrmacht is the most powerful force on Continental Europe. The Wehrmacht currently is the only organization to use combined-arms and mission-based tactics, and the Luftwaffe has gained valuable experience with the Spanish Civil War. Germany's U-Boats are also currently unmatched. The Wehrmacht's officer corps is also currently the most competent, professional and well-trained in the world.

Germany also has the lowest unemployment rate in Europe, a devoted and loyal population, and a formidable industrial base.

Weakness: Germany's Blitzkrieg tactics, if not properly managed and planned out can lead to overextended supply lines, and its Anti-Semitism and past actions have left it with few allies.

Best Infantry Unit: Waffen-SS

Best Armoured Unit: Panzer IV Ausf. C.

Best Naval Unit: U-Boat

Best Airforce Unit: Me-109

Player SirEmilCrane:
Spoiler for The United Kingdom:
The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland

Leader: Neville Chamberlain, King George VI

Territory: Controls all of England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Gibraltar, Malta, Egypt, large portions of Land in Africa, South Africa, India, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, some of the Caribbean, the Falkland Islands and Burma

Nationality: Nearly Every ethnicity under the sun
Description of Nationality:

Population: 532 Million Across the Empire, mostly in India, including 47 million at home

Society: By this point in time British society resembles modern western society, with slight class divisions still apparent

Religion: Anglican, Hindu, Muslim, Catholic primarily

Government: Parliamentary Democracy
Economy: Free Market Capitalism

Military: The Armed forces of the United Kingdom are a small well trained professional force, the upper command is still influenced by world war one ideas however, except in the role of air power

Technology: The United Kingdom is on the leading edge for technologies such as cryptography, anti tank guns, air craft and ships and not too far behind germany in armored vehicle production

National Focus: The current national focus is on expanding the Royal Air Force

Background: The United Kingdom is currently the worlds leading power , controlling a quarter of the worlds surface and having one of the largest fleets in the world. Despite this their power is waning. World War One and the upkeep of the Empire have drained their economy, and successive pacifist governments have let the once mighty fleet languish. With the rise of new Superpowers like the USSR, USA and Germany its all England can do to keep their place in the world.

Alliances: France, and the semi autonomous nations like Canada, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand

Trading Agreements: England trades with most nations

Strengths: Well trained forces supported by a strong technological and industrial base, powerful navy and air force

Weakness: The high command is mostly aristocratic WW1 era fops, low in numbers, unwillingness to take large casualties

Best Infantry Unit: A young Captain David Stirling has this idea for a group of men called the SAS

Best Armoured Unit: While not yet in service, the Infantry tank Matilda mk II is one of the most heavily armored tanks in the world with 80mm frontal armor and the excellent 2pdr gun. However, new advances in technology may soon render it obsolete.

Best Naval Unit: The planned King George V class battleship, soon to enter service has 10 14 inch guns and thick armor, also mounts a modern fire control system unlike any seen in the world.

Best Airforce Unit: The Supermarine Spitfire

Player Ragez:
Spoiler for The Empire of Japan:
Nation Name The Empire of Japan.

Leader: Prime Minister Hideki Tōjō, Emperor Hirohito.

Territory: Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Manchuria, Russian Far East, South Karafuto, Kwantung Leased Territory, South Pacific Mandate, Shandong.

Nationality: Japanese, Korean, Taiwanese, Manchurian, Russian, and various other annexed ethnicities.

Description of Nationality: Within Japan, the idea of a Greater East Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere begins to foment. The nationalists believe that the "ABCD powers" (Americans, British, Chinese, Dutch) are a threat to all Asians and that Asia can only survive by following the Japanese example. Japan is the only Asian and non-Western power to industrialize itself successfully and rival great Western empires. While largely described by Western observers as a front for the expansion of the Japanese army, the idea behind the Co-Prosperity Sphere is that Asia would be united against the Western powers and Western Imperialism under the auspices of the Japanese. The idea drew influence in the paternalistic aspects of Confucianism and Koexcrementsu Shinto. Thus, the main goal of the Sphere is the hakkō ichiu, the unification of the eight corners of the world under the rule (kōdō) of the Emperor.

Population: 99,856,818 people across the empire.

Society: Japanese society has been somewhat westernized due to contact with Western society and attempts at westernization by previous leaders, but this has been countered by extreme growth in Japanese nationalism over the years; now being based on the concept of Bushidō and traditional Japanese values.

Religion: State Shinto, Zen Buddhism.

Government: Constitutional Monarchy
Economy: Mixed Economy

Military: The Japanese military, or the Dai-Nippon Teikoku Rikugun/Kaigun/Kōkūbutai, is not a force to be underestimated. It is a large and powerful force of around 376,000 active with 2 million reserves in 1938. The Rikugan (Army) of the military is largely a professional determined force and in theory every soldier believes it is a great honor to die for the Emperor as the samurai concept "to serve" is deeply ingrained in all the soldiers' culture.

The Kōkūbutai (Airforce) is also a powerful airforce split into army airforce and naval airforce, which developed along the lines of Imperial German Army Aviation so that its primary mission is to provide tactical close air support for ground troops while maintaining a limited air interdiction capability, like the Mitsubishi A6M Zero fighter and the Nakajima Ki-43. The Kaigun (Navy) has large numbers of surface vessels, due to abandonment of restrictions of the Washington and London Naval Treaties allowing it several more battleships than most other nations. It is the third largest navy in the world, and is a force to be reckoned with.

Technology: Currently the Empire of Japan has a mix of modern and pre-war equipment, though Japanese engineers and scientists are adapting new technologies from foreign technology and creating their own to allow for greater military superiority.

National Focus: Japanese nationalism, military might, honor.

Background:
Imperial Japan's rapid industrialization and militarization under the slogan Fukoku Kyōhei ("Enrich the Country, Strengthen the Army") led to its emergence as a world power, eventually culminating in its membership in the Axis alliance and the conquest of a large part of the Asia-Pacific region. Its background follows proper historical background up until 1938, before which the Japanese delegation to the League of Nations, defying world opinion, withdrew from the League of Nations Assembly after the assembly had adopted a report blaming Japan for events in Manchuria; this was among the major reasons for the eventual break up of the League of Nations.

Alliances: Negotiations for a German-Japanese alliance began in 1937, and are in full swing, but other than that Japan has no allies due to its isolationism; only annexed lands.

Trading Agreements: German Reich.

Strengths: Japanese soldiers are fanatically devoted and stoically determined in addition to being well trained, preferring to die than to get captured by the enemy. The Japanese Navy is also an extremely powerful force, being the third largest navy in the world that applies extremely rigorous training to all naval personel and uses the most modern technology available. Japan enjoys air superiority over most battlefields due to the combat experience of its crews and the increasingly advanced aircraft that they use. The Japanese also use several effective suicidal tactics to take down enemies as a last resort, such as kamikaze, banzai charges, and Kaitens.

Weakness: The Japanese military is generally resource starved as is, and as a result wars of attrition and disrupting supply lines is devastating to them. In addition, Japan does not have the industrial capability of many Western nations, making it difficult to replace lost units. A consistent weakness of Japanese warship development is the tendency to incorporate too much armament, and too much engine power, in comparison to ship size (a side-effect of the Washington Treaty), leading to shortcomings in stability, protection, and structural strength.

Best Infantry Unit: The Teishin Shudan Special Forces Paratroopers.

Best Armoured Unit: Although not quite yet in production yet, the Type 1 Chi-He is a powerful tank  with a 47 mm high-velocity gun with a barrel length of 2.250 m, a muzzle velocity of 810 m/s (2,700 ft/s), and a penetration capability of 55 mm over 100 meters and 30 mm over 1,000 meters, almost double that of previous generations. Its angled, thicker frontal armor is welded, as opposed to riveted, and has a thickness of 8-50 mm.

Best Naval Unit: The planned Yamato-Class Super Battleship, which is among the heaviest and most powerfully armed battleships ever constructed; displacing 72,800 tonnes at full load and armed with nine 46 cm (18.1 inch) main guns (the largest caliber of naval artillery ever fitted to a warship), as well as having extremely thick armor in several spots.

Best Airforce Unit: The Mitsubishi A6M Zero.

Player Tobbs:
Spoiler for Sweden:
Nation Name: Sweden

Leader: Prime Minister Per Albin Hanson

Territory: Sweden

Nationality: Swedish and Sami

Description of Nationality: Descendants of the Germanic Saxons, the Swedish are a part of what Hitler call the Herrenvolk, the Aryan race that shall be on top in the new world order. The Swedish of course feel flattered by this. As for the Sami, they have no place in the world, according to Nazi agenda.

Population: 6,200,000

Society: Swedish society is that of the typical western country, only with some influence from Nazi German society and thus slightly more corporative. Sweden is not yet interested in joining either the Axis nor the Allied powers, but most Swedes have a "United-Germanians" mentality, and the support of Nazi Germany is considerable.

Religion: Mostly Protestant, but also small parts of Catholic, Orthodox and Sami animist.

Government: Parliamentary democracy
Economy: Mixed economy

Military: The Swedish army, or armén, is a mostly militia-based army of 120,000 active soldiers and 280,000 in reserve that are known as experts in wooden and winter warfare, and that makes excellent use of its light armor.

Technology: Currently Sweden has a relatively modern war machine. The standard weapons of the Swedish army are the Mauser m38 rifle and the M37 submachine gun, but many of its vehicle designs hail from the Great War.

National Focus: For now, maintaining its state of neutrality as well as preparing their army due to increasing international tension.

Background: Data unavailable: not much in history was recorded of Sweden during this time, other than that she was still recovering from the great economical depression a few years ago. She was also preparing her army in case war would break out, and she feared occupation both from Nazi Germany as well as from Allied forces such as Britain.

Alliances: None

Trading Agreements: The Swedish Empire trades with most nations, but particularly sells iron ore to Nazi Germany.

Strengths: Sweden makes use of efficient if old light and highly mobile light vehicles and armor, but has quite modern small arms weaponry for infantry, has excellent training in winter- and woods warfare. They also have loads of iron ore to fuel a future war machine.

Weakness: Relatively small and poorly prepared army, very low number of vehicles (air force under 20 planes, for example), has a severe shortage of officers, and has very peace-loving policies...this will all have to be changed.

Best Infantry Unit: No real elite infantry exists. All Swedish infantry are trained in winter- and woods warfare and has modern weaponry, but the army is mostly made up of conscripted militias and Home Guard.

Best Armoured Unit: Strv L-60, a 6,8 light tank equipped with 5-15 mm armor, a Madsen 20mm cannon, a 0.303 Madsen machine gun, a 7,9 litre Bussing-Nag V8 engine, and has a top speed of 48 km/h.

Best Naval Unit:

Best Airforce Unit: SA Jaktfalken

Player Mikethor:
Spoiler for Brazil:
Brazil

Leader: Getúlio Vargas

Territory: Brazil

Nationality: Brazilian (Portuguese ascendancy), Amerindians, African descendants, a significant number of Portuguese, Italian, German, Japanese, Syrian, Lebanese immigrants plus a good number of Spaniards.
Description of Nationality:

Population: 40000000-ish

Society: Resembles modern western society, with the all of the problems that living under a Dictatorship brings. News and every means of communication are censored. Political dissent is stamped out and punished.

Religion: Mostly Roman Catholic.

Government: Dictatorship
Economy: By the early 1930's it was mostly comprised of agriculture and animal husdbandry. The outcomes (alternate history) of the Cisplatine War and the Paraguay war have left Brazil in a better position in regards to raw materials, manpower, and access to strategical waterways.

Military: Small and well trained, though not on the same level as the other allies, on the account of never needing to fight in a war since the Paraguayan War that ended in 1870.

Technology: By 1938 Brazil is a woefully under-industrialized country, so any armaments used are pre-owned foreign imports. This goes for all armed forces, the Army, the Navy and the Air Force.

National Focus: Industrialization of the internal economy, expansion and modernization of the Armed Forces.

Background: This follows the proper historical as laid out in history books up to the Cisplatine War in 1820. In this war, the Empire of Brazil was able to drive out the Argentinian forces. Deprived of this support, the local populace instead decided for permannently integrating into the Empire. This left Brazil in a much better position when the Paraguay War came to be. Instead of the war being started due to pollitical meddling of Argentina and Brazil in Uruguay's internal affairs, Solano López decided for the offensive to try and curb Brazil's "expansionist's intentions". So, instead of Paraguay going against Argentina, Brazil and eventually Uruguay, it went against a weakened Argentina and a strengthened Brazil. The war was costly in both money and casualties, but Paraguay's forces were routed and driven out into the neighboring countries away from Brazil. And thus the country was annexed.

Alliances:None at the moment.

Trading Agreements:Trade occurs with most nations.

Strengths: Large populational pool from which to draw troops. Though the armed forces haven't seen any real war since the Paraguay War, they are kept well trained in urban, field and forest/jungle warfare. Troops are also well trained on how to live off the land in case rations grow short. In regards to armament and armor, nothing is really produced locally aside from (maybe) a limited number of munitions.

Weakness: As the country does not manufacture its own military hardware, it depends on trade agreements and imports to maintain its armed forces.

Best Infantry Unit:

Best Armoured Unit:

Best Naval Unit:Minas Gerais class battleship.

Best Airforce Unit: Curtiss P-40 Warhawk

Player Wisekill1:
Spoiler for Netherlands:
Nation Name
United Kingdom of the Netherlands

Leaders:
Prime minister: Dirk Jan de Geer
Queen: Wilhelmina of Orange-Nassau

Territory:
Europe: Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg.
Americas: Suriname, Bonaire, Saba, Sint Eustatius, Sint Maarten, Curaçao, Aruba.
Asia: Indonesia

Nationality:
Dutch, Flemish, Walloons, luxembourgian and a variety of nationalities in the colonies.
Description of Nationality:
The people of the Low Countries have always been relatively peacefull compared to the great powers neighbours south, east and on the other side of the north sea.

Population:
Europe: 16.325 million

I was unable to get any solid numbers on the population in the colonies

Society:
Mostly peacefull.

Religion:
Protestant and Catholic

Government:
Constitutional monarchy
Economy:
The United kingdom of the Netherlands has a strong trade based economy, they also have large amounts of natural recourses such as oil and rubber from the colonies.

Military:
Land army is quite weak but there is a decent Navy and Airforce

Technology:
Much of the technology is outdated, although they know a lot about water control it's not something that's worth much.

National Focus:
Modernization and expansion of Naval force.

Background:
History follows it's normal way until mid world war 1, then the Netherland joins the allies and attack the german trenches in their back.
After world war 1 the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg join into a single country.
They did have to let go of Belgium Congo, it's an independent country now.

Alliances:
No real alliances at the moment.

Trading Agreements:
Because trade is so important in the economy Dutch traders are seen in almost every corner of the world

Strengths:
The Fokker aircraft manufacturer is located in the Netherlands. The Dutch mainland can quite easly be defended at the Dutch Water Line and the Afsluitdijk.

Weakness:
Large amounts of pacifists in the population makes it hard for the goverment to focus on spending money on the millitary. Add this to the fact that most of the equipment used is World War 1 material you can see that there is a lot of modernization to do.

Best Infantry Unit:
There aren't any real special forces in the Netherlands.

Best Armoured Unit:
The T-13 Tank. They were regarded as tank destroyers and were equipped with a 47 mm gun.

Best Naval Unit:
O 19 class submarine

Submarines of this class were the first submarines in the world to be equipped with a submarine snorkel that allowed the submarine to run its diesel engines while submerged. The submarines diving depth was 100 meters.

Best Airforce Unit:
Fokker G.I

The G.I, given the nickname le Faucheur ("reaper" in French), was designed as a private venture in 1936 by Fokker chief engineer Dr. Schatzki. Intended for the role of jachtkruiser, "heavy" fighter or air cruiser, able to gain air superiority over the battlefield as well as being a bomber destroyer, the G.1 would fulfill a role seen as important at the time, by advocates of Giulio Douhet's theories on air power. The Fokker G.I utilized a twin-engined, twin-boom layout that featured a central nacelle housing two or three crew members (a pilot, radio operator/navigator/rear gunner or a bombardier) as well as a formidable armament of twin 23 mm (.91 in) Madsen cannon and a pair of 7.9 mm (.31 in) machine guns (later eight machine guns) in the nose and one in a rear turret.

Besides its main mission, the G.1 could be configured for ground attack and light bombing missions (it could carry a bomb load of one 400 kg/882 lb bomb or combinations of two 200 kg/441 lb or 10 26 kg/57 lb bombs).

Player LordNecross:
Spoiler for Kingdom of Italy:
Nation Name Kingdom of Italy

Current Leader: Prime Minister: Benito Mussolini, and King Victor Emmauel III

Territory: Italy, Libya, Abyssinia

Nationality: Italian
Description of Nationality: Mediterranian people who descend from the Latin Origins of the Roman Empire.

Population: 44,858,000 Approx.

Society: Italy during this time was troubled, still affected by the great depression it had a dwindling economy, and a people who were not enthusiatic about their government.

Religion: Multi-Religious, Mostly Roman Catholic

Government:
Economy: Declining Facist Dictatorship

Military: One of the Largest Land Armies of its time, however its effective deployment right now that is sustainable is 200,000 troops. Many of there equipment is out of date, and is equipment that had been used in the Great War. However with time it could become one of the more Potent Armies in Europe.

Technology: Technology is fairly outdate in regards to other European powers, and this is a result of the poor state of the economy, plans are in the making to fix this problem. They have most of what other powers have but the industry is limited and needs expansion.

National Focus: Restoring Italy as a Power, and becoming Economically significant as it was in the past.

Background: After world War 1, Italy was devastated and had receeded into a Depression. The stagnant Economy of Europe and fear of Socialist Revolution led to the National Facist Party of Italy to be supported. Benito Mussolini set up a coup against the King, and failed terribly. The King however supporting the Facist party instead, made Benito his Prime Minister. Benito Abused his new found power to affect Italian Policy and make terrible decisions, even if his intentions were to improve Italy.

Alliances: Nazi Germany

Trading Agreements: Nazi Germany, (Unsure of others)

Strengths: Courageous  troops, and good Military Leaders. It also has a Decent Navy, and its position in the Mediterranian makes it a superb port for Mediterranean Trade.

Weakness: The Depression coupled with technological deficiencies has made Italy far behind the other powers, something needs to be done with the economy before any effective plans of expansion can be made. Funds for Training are lacking as well.

Best Infantry Unit: Insufficient Data.  Italian infantry were all around great soldiers, loyal to their King, they were however were under armed due to the Italian Economy being in Decline and outfitted with out of date Weapons, if that were to be fixed they could be one of the more potent land forces of the world.

Best Armoured Unit:  Carro Armato L3 series: A absolutely terrible Tank, and more akin to tanks of world war one it was not capable of fielding Cannons, and only held Machineguns. It will need to be replaced soon.

barbettes 140–150 mm (5.5–5.9 in)

Best Airforce Unit: Fiat G.50 Freccia- A more modern fighter compared to Italies other Fighters, it was slow and lacked in operation distance, and was under gunned using only 12.7mm guns.

Spoiler for Do I have to use Small Paragraphs, What if I want to go Big with tons of Detail?:
Thats alright also. Post however you like to.  Personally I like to put in detail into my posts, although you may be completely different, and want to put in small paragraphs, both are fine, you can post however you would like to

-------------------------------- In Game -----------------------------------------------
Spoiler for Do I need to play by the Advanced Rules:
No, The advanced rules are 100% optional... they are there for if you want to add an extra twist to the game to make it more fun for yourself, and/or others. On the contrary, Main Rules must be followed at all times, Unless an exemption is allowed by the GM
Spoiler for If  travel is limited to 20th Century technology how do we advance? Can we go beyond 20th Century tech?:
You advance it over time... Basically in the mean time, play out wars, Research technology, and do other stuff that Civilizations would normally do while research is being done.
One possible explanation on how it could go is we end up with a scenario where: we might possibly have civilizations researching the same thing, at a similar pace, and then a war starts up over the new technology, or you trade for it, and you begin to grow your Nation.

Do what makes sense for your civilization, you don't need high-tech stuff to succeed... if you wanted to you could be an isolationist Nation building up tons of war out-dated war material, with a large conscript army, and whenever a Nation finds you; you take it by pverwhelming force through attrition, and go invade them.

But in short, do what makes sense for your Nation, research, travel (or take it by force) when you need it/are ready for it... there is no rush.
Spoiler for Do I have to wait for someone else to post before I am allowed to post again?:
Nope, You can post as many times in a row as you like.  Posting is the main way of advancing the game. Double Posting, Triple posting, and so on, and so on will not get you into any trouble in the game whatsoever.

.. Post Away :P

MAIN RULES
Spoiler for Character Controlling:
A player is to not use a character created by the another player, unless plot demands it, or you have recieved proper allowences through the use of "OOC Thread" or through "PMs".  Additionally, if the Character in question has not been used within 2~3 pages the character is put into a free usage for use by everyone. Exemptions being main characters of a current plot. If the character is used again with seeming intent to use again, the character is taken off the list untill that intention has passed.

Leaders of respective Nations have seperate rules. A leader can be used minorly by anyone, but only can the true Player incharge of that leader may use it normally.
ex. Do use another players leader for basic conversations. Do Not use to force trades or change policy.

Remember the GM can overide rules and is still lead decision maker.

ADVANCED RULES

Spoiler for Civil Unrest System:
Certain actions on certain places can cause civil unrest among the population there, with everything from raising taxes to opening fire on the populace acting as factors.

0% - the people are happy with your leadership.

5% - your actions annoy the populace. Unrest decrease over time.

10% - your actions anger the populace. Unrest decrease over time.

25% - the people start demonstrating, but its nothing serious. To this point, minor changes in your behavior must happen to decrease unrest.

50% - the demonstrations get violent, and vandalism occurs. Many arrests may be made. You need to make more serious changes for unrest to decrease.

75% - the people start rioting and smacking up "anti-you" propaganda. You need to make drastic changes for unrest to decrease.

90% - the populace start opening fire against and generally attack police/military on the streets. Time for some changes man!

100% - REVOLUTION!! To this point there is no return. Either you bring down the revolution with violence, or you loose control of that region. Beware: the rebels might be stronger than you might think. You better avoid this on your homeworld.

For this to work, though, you have to be realistic about it. You can't barge into peoples homes and steal stuff or something and expect the populace to be happy about it. But you can't create a revolution because of a little confiscated food neither. With these stages, you can determine how much civil unrest is created by the specific action.

Spoiler for Global Threats:
In Nations there are no seperate all-encompassing threats, that the world will have to unite against, like in Empires or Kingdoms. However in Nations a nation can overtime become and be considered a Global Threat. A Global Threat is a nation that has become powerful and aggressive enough to be considered a threat to the international community. There are many ways to do this, but generally it involves things like ignoring treaties, invading and/or conquering your neighbours, making threats, extensive militarization and nuclear armament (when applicable). Such a nation tends to be a superpower that is using their might in aggressive ways. This might prompt other nations to unite against this threat, and bring it down through diplomacy, economic warfare, conventional warfare...or if neccessary, even nuclear warfare. However to become a Global Threat, a nation must meet certain criteria. For example they must generally have a powerful military capable of taking on multiple nations, a powerful enough economy to support said military and outcompete other economies, a strong diplomatic presence and an aggressive attitude towards other nations. Any nation is capable of this, but it takes time, patience and a little cunning...after all, other nations may notice what you're doing, and take exemption.

If you have any ideas for any other Advanced Rules, Post in the thread, or Send me a message. And we will evaluate the rule, as well as make adjustments as needed to help it fit in with the game in the best possible way

>Reichenburg, Reichsgau Sudetenland, German Reich
>October 11th, 1938

Corporal Hanz Schueller stood with the rest of his unit, enjoying the rather large and pleasant bonfire they were around. It had been a day since the annexation of the Sudetenland, and the liberation of the Sudeten Germans from Czech rule, had been finalized. He took a nice look around the city, taking the time to enjoy himself before his unit was ordered on to other duties. He liked Reichenburg, it reminded him of his childhood home in Augsburg, despite the Jewish presence here. But that was being taken care of, he could see some of the empty homes or homes soon-to-be empty, of the Jewish families that once lived here. Not long after the Wehrmacht had set up their presence in Reichenburg, they had expelled the Jewish families from their homes, some fleeing further east but most being located to some sort of camps the government had set up. Hanz didn't know much about the supposed camps, but then again he didn't really care, it wasn't his problem.

Hanz's friend Albert handed him a book, saying "Here, fire seems to be dying down. Might as well throw this in as kindling, keep the fire going."

Hanz looked down, seeing the book was a copy of the Talmud or Torah, not being able to read the Hebrew. A voice then spoke up, Hanz recognizing it as belonging to his CO.

"Guess it's time to move on" said Albert wistfully "A shame...you rarely get to enjoy a good fire like this."

"Indeed" said Hanz "But who nows? Another opportunity might come along."

Hanz then chucked the book into the waning fire, which burned from the remains of the Jewish Synagogue that was once there, and moved on with the rest of his unit.

>Roma Capitale, Lazio, Kingdom of Italy
>September 14th, 1938

Italy was in turmoil, much of what was happening within the country did not ease the situation, Benito's policies were meant to help the country but they were in fact not. The Economy was in dire straights, there could be no more war, and no one could oppose the fascists, as all parties had been banned. However in a room within a building in Roma, there was a meeting going on.

The Head of the meeting was a young man, approximately 32, His name was Cesare Fidanza, he was a scholar who had studied politics, the economy, and minored in history, however he found in himself a need to help Italy and had stopped in his pursuit of his doctorate. He believed he knew what Italy needed, and it definitely was not Mussolini that was needed. He had gotten as many as he could gather together, and friends of his would be lecturing other groups where it was safe.

He knew Italy needed a uniting force, he knew it needed to expand its influence, but he also knew that they could never accomplish it without improving themselves, they were far behind, and he could never get his ideas into effect under Mussolini, He needed to sway the King to his cause.

And now he stood here in front of fifty people packed into a small room. "My friends, fellow Italians, Fellow Romans!" He paused for effect,"I have you here because Italy needs us, and the Facist's don't know anything about what we need, What Italians Need, What we Romans need."

He was using the term Roman quite often, even though not everyone here was from Rome, some one asked,"Why do you keep saying Romans?"

Cesare smiled,"Because We are Romans are we not? It was our past  why can it not be our future? What Italy needs is to be Roman again, to be United, to be a be a force of Change, We were once powerful! We must become strong as a people again."

Another asked,"Why Romans though? We are Italianos?"

"Because my dear friend, there was a time when we were proud to be Roman, when others were Proud to be....Roman...We need to become a New Rome again, its what we need to be strong, there was a time when most of the known world called itself Roman, They were proud, We brought them Roman pride in their defeat, We uplifted others, there was pride in becoming Roman."

Alot of the faces thought about it, the romanticism of the thought was quite palpable. "But how do we do it?"

"What we do, is we get rid of Mussolini, we gather support first, and we go to our King, He will see our Pride, and we shall show hims the Glory of making this nation well again, into making this Empire have pride again, Uplift our people and become the envy of the world!" Cesare said,"But We need to start small, our home is in dire need, my fellow....Romans, We need to help our people and then the world comes next, but we cannot do so if Mussolini continues to push us down, We must gather support, times are not good, and we need to prove ourselves."

Cesare continued talking to the men, a similar message being told by others, as they came to associate this new idea with the name Cesare, However there was fear of retribution, but they kept low, and the message was carefully spread.

When enough support had been gathered, they would come to the King, When Italy  was ready to Be Roma again.

1938, Manchuria; an area under the iron fist of Japan as a consequence of the latest Sino-Japanese War. The natives were mostly subjugated by both the military dominance and economic dominance provided by Japan, but on occasion some breached this subjugation; and needed to be taught a lesson.

Taicho (Captain) Soichiro Yagami stood over a group of such people captured by his men in Manchuria, who all awaited their fate at his hands.

"What crime have these men committed?" Yagami asked, having just arrived

"Taicho, these men are part of a resistance movement; we witnessed them attempting to rig our trucks to explode." One of his men explained, "Had we not arrived a minute sooner, they would have succeeded in the task."

Soichiro looked over the captured Chinese men, who were mostly cowering in fear of what awaited them; with the exception of the few brave ones who stared right back at him, prepared for death. He himself did not want to execute them, it would mean six people taken out of the local workforce and six people that grieving families would mourn for a long time.

But he knew that if he let these men go, they would merely go cause trouble again and hamper the Japanese army's efforts to establish control. Not only that, but his men would lose respect for him; making commanding them rather difficult if, or rather when, they had to go to war once more. This left him no other option, no matter how much he hated it.

He made a small unnoticeable sigh, before giving the order; "Execute them, by firing squad."

Some of his men smiled with glee, others frowned at the order but knew it had to be done, and still others actually frowned at not having a more brutal method of execution available to them; psychopathic bastards that Soichiro would like to have nothing to do with.

"Hai, Taicho." His men replied loudly, before dragging the tied and gagged prisoners outside; some of them screaming and crying, yet others remaining stoic and determined even in the face of their own death

Yagami sighed, more audibly this time now that his men had left, before deciding to get a drink in the local bar. He'd probably see some of his fellow officers there, some of the more realistically minded ones; he hoped.

London England, 30th of Spetember, 1938

"My good friends, this is the second time in our history that there has come back from Germany to Downing Street peace with honour. I believe it is peace for our time. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts. And now I recommend you to go home and sleep quietly in your beds."

One of the men in the room switched off the radio with disdain. The men seated around the table were some of the rising stars of the British military and political scene. At the head of the table sat a thick set, imposing figure, cigar in hand.

"Gentlemen, I believe we have a very real set of problems. This government is determined to appease Germany at any cost and we go ever closer to another war. We need to plan a strong defense of this realm or all may be lost."

One of the officers of the RAF spoke up, "The German Luftwaffe is fast growing into a powerful air force, we need to be prepared for aerial attacks on Britain. I've spoken with the chaps at Supermarine and Hawker, fighter technology is fast becoming a priority. We're also beginning to implement this new radar, Watt and his lads are proving most useful."

"Good, we may have many long months of struggle before us, but Britain shall be ready."
...scum.

Hitler sat amongst his staff, discussing their recent gains with the Sudetenland, before the topic of Poland came up.

"Gentleman" said Hitler "I will be clear, it is my intention to reclaim our rightful territory from the Poles, given unfairly in the Treaty of Versailles. The Sudetenland was just the beginning...we will soon reiterate our demands for the Polish Corridor and Danzig. I however wish to avoid taking it by force. I do not want war with Poland, and I especially do not want war with Britain. I therefore intend to negotiate with the British, French and Polish governments, and present them with our reasonable demands. However before we begin negotiations, we must take what remains of Czechoslovakia, in the event that we must go to war with Poland."

The others nodded, before Hitler said "Very well, I want the Wehrmacht ready for the invasion of Czechoslovakia. I will inform President Hacha myself when we are ready."

The meeting was over soon after, and the German Reich made it's preparations for the occupation of Czechoslovakia.

Stockholm, Sweden
12th of October, 1938

"We must join our Germanic kinsmen in the war against the Jewish scourge!"a large, overweight and bald man with round glasses and a brown shirt spoke into the microphone in the large room, which was filled with over two hundred people clad in brown shirts. He was on a large stage with a wooden pedestal in front of him, with a mounted microphone. On the walls behind the large man hung two large banners, each with a large, black swastika on them. "And with it, the Germanic race will take its rightful place as the master race!"the man ended, and the crowd broke up in cheers. But there was one face that was broken in a frown.

In the front of the masses sat Sven Olov Lindholm, the leader of Nationalsocialistiska Arbetarpartiet, or NSAP, and watched the large man - Joakim Harke, his own equivalent of Joseph Goebbels - walk off the stage to the cheers of the crowd. He thought Joakim had spoken well that last half hour, but there was something he could not get his mind off.

"Is there something wrong, sir?"one of Lindholm's closest men asked him as he sat next to him as the crowd started calming down.

"Look at them, Axel."Lindholm responded, looking at the masses who were now starting to leave the room under the directions of a party official. "Brown shirts and black Swastikas. We might as well have the German SA in here."

"The Germans make a good example for us to follow."the man named Axel replied.

"But tell me, Axel, how are we supposed to be great if look like a copy of another party? We need our own identity; we need to be clearly distinguishable from the rest."

"What are you saying?"

"I'm saying we need to make some changes in the party."Lindholm responded, a smile appearing on his face. "A quite drastic one."

"You really don't get that?" The other crewmember said "We might want to stay neutral but in times like this it's always better to be prepared."

Willem continued walking, he was thinking about going towards Rotterdam to look at the construction of the first Oranje class battlecruiser, that'd be good for morale and also give his crew something to focus on.

>Roma Capitale, Lazio, Kingdom of Italy
>October 14th, 1938
>Residence of Victor Emmanuel III

The King had a lot on his plate with his Military extended in both Libya an Ethiopia, all he was told by Mussolini was that it was what was best for repairing Italy. The King had caught wind of a movement gaining strength in Italy, something that peaked his interest. The Facists had been trying to hold it back, and Benito had personally told him to take no heed to them, they were obviously socialist scum that would ruin the nation.

Victor had heard no such thing regarding them, and it intrigued him, and Italy was no better after letting Benito in to his government, so he made counsel with his most loyal in regards to Benito.

The room had several officers in there none had ties to the fascists. "My friends, I have you here today to ask for an opinion on the state of my country, what say you on our nations circumstances?"

They looked to each other then said, "We are not doing good our economy can't support these wars, We need the territories for supplies, but if we extend our selves any further We will collapse."

The king mulled it over,"Yes we are in a poor state, but do any of you believe that Mussolini has helped? I put him in that position because I believed he could."

The men looked to each other,"Well your majesty, We believe that....Signore Mussolini, has not been going about helping the country correctly, He is pushing us towards things we are not ready for."

The King took note of that, maybe it had not been in his best interest to put Mussolini as his Prime Minister.

"Well thank you I shall take your word, I have some issues to rectify it seems." Victor said dismissing them, they bowed and left.

Victor now had another person of interest, whoever was leading this movement that worried the fascists, if they were convincing the people then maybe they had better interests in mind. He would find and invite the man to see him, much like he had done for Mussolini, which he was beginning to see was a mistake, maybe this new movement would be different.

> Fiat Headquarters

The Fiat company had recently received a new contract for designing a new tank, and the specifications were being written up. The new Tank was to take Italy towards a more modernized armored weapon, and they wanted research done on the best armoring scheme for what they wanted to be a 25 to 30 tonne main battle tank, a medium tank for combat against both infantry and other tanks. The Tank was to also have a Decent speed as well, and be reliable, and have efficient armor.

It was a lot to work on but the Contract gave them time, The Ansaldo company would also be helping with designing as well. The First Priority was an armoring scheme, which they would begin discussing.

An Ansaldo designer spoke first,"Well if we want protection we want more armor do we not?"

"Yes, but we need to keep it a decent weight, haw can we keep the armor effective without adding too much weight?" A Fiat designer said.

"Well we are short on funds, but the Contract has given us what money can be spared for the design, We need something innovative, and I think the best way to find out what works best is to put it into practice" The Head designer said.

The talked for an hour or so more before heading out.

They decided on heading out to a firing range.

"So whats the plan, Why are we out here?" One of them said.

"We are going to shoot at some metal Plates, find out what is our best option." The Head Director said.

As the Plates were brought out, varying in thickness they were stood up away from a wall behind them, and they grabbed a rifle and began firing at them, the thinnest ones the gun went through as expected, and the gun had trouble with the thicker plates.

As they then examined the damage a bit, they accidentally knocked one of the plates over, and it leaned against the back of the wall. It was one of the mid plates, and it leaned at an angle against the wall.

One of the men went to stand it back up when one of the Fiat designers told him to stop.

"Don't lift it up, leave it like that!" He seemed to want to test something,"Lets shoot at it while its angled like that."

Some of them looked puzzled and others mulled it over with interest.

They loaded up the rifle and fired at the plates again. When they shot the one that was leaned over a resounding 'Ping' was heard, and the brick wall behind it took a hit higher up.

They all stood there, then the head Director said something,"I think we have something." He smiled a bit.

Upon examination the noticed the damage was significantly less compared to when it had been straight up, now they just needed to discover why.

Johan Bakker, a Diplomat of the Dutch Government was getting into his car towards Hamburg.
He knew relations were tense with the NSDAP but the Prime minister himself had told him that the trade talks had to succeed.
"We do indeed need AA guns, but to buy them from the country that has been hostile to it's neighbours, I don't think this is going to work."
A tall man sat down next to Johan. "But it's not my call to make, I just have to make sure we get atleast one prototype back for testing so we can actualy figure out how many we need."

Tokyo, Japan
20th of October, 1938

Emperor Hirohito, along with his cabinet and Prime Minister Fumimaro Konoe, sat down for a Gozen Kaigi (Imperial Conference). The purpose of the meeting was to discuss current affairs, as well as decide on the issue of China.

"Currently, Emperor; we've winning in the war against the Chinese. However, we're winning at such a slow pace and we're having quite a lot of trouble keeping order in our newly conquered areas." The Prime Minister said, pointing towards a newly created map

"So what are you suggesting, Konoe? That we halt our progress?" Another politician asked, slightly angered at Konoe's words

"Temporarily, at least. We've already captured Chiang's capital, and we've gained enough resources and industrial capabilities from them by now. All we need now is to maintain order in the areas that we've conquered, and create peace with the Chinese." Konoe replied

"And what of the Greater East Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere?! China is a large threat to our plans, and needs to be eradicated!" Hajime Sugiyama, a general, exclaimed

"As I mentioned before, this will only be temporary. In creating this peace, we will re-start the Chinese Civil War between the Communists and Chiang. Once both sides get weak enough from fighting each other, we can move in for the kill and conquer China in one fell swoop." Konoe replied, keeping his voice level

"What Konoe says has merit," Seishirō Itagaki, the Minister of War, said "Currently, we've accomplished a major victory over the Chinese. Now would be the best time to pursue a temporary peace option, so we can focus on other nations and restructure our military as planned."

"Itagaki, just because-!"

"Enough." The voice of the Emperor boomed, quieting everybody down

"What the Prime Minister suggests does indeed seem like the best course of action. We will create peace with the Chinese, strengthen our hold on what territory we have annexed, focus on restructuring our military tactics, and give greater attention to other fronts. Are there any objections?" Emperor Hirohito asked

Nobody objected, they knew the Emperor held the most power in the room. His word was, usually, law. The meeting ended with the various sides debating on how to accomplish the given tasks, and a renewed sense of vigor for Fumimaru Konoe; who knew that his words now held more power after this meeting.

Admiral of the Fleet Sir Roger Backhouse strode out of the limousine in his full dress uniform. For once the sun was shining over the Cammel and Laird ship yards. Groups of workmen and sailors hurroed about. He was met by Vice Admiral Andrew Cunningham, his deputy on the Committee for Imperial defence and the Admiralty Board.

Cunningham saluted, "Admiral, the construction is on schedule, they should all be in service by 1941, with the first ship arriving in 1940."

"Good, these battleships represent some of the most powerful ships in the world, but I hope we never have to use them," Backhouse mused idly as they walked along the docks.

"Well sir," replied Cunningham, "if we did, they're superior to anything Germany has at present, and at least equal to the Littorio class."

Backhouse, "Admiral, you presume our supposed foe would be either Germany or Italy, but it is the position of this Government that peace has been secured with Germany."

"Right you are sir..."

*In a dimly lit room, tallest building in Rio de Janeiro*

"And what is that buffoon Getulio doing? The only thing he seems good at is dithering about. We need, NEED to get a better industrial complex in our country. And all he does is clamp down on the populace and play cat and mouse with dissidents! And now with the news from Europe...what does our friend here from the military have to say about them?"

*Another person in the room responds, with a grave tone in both his voice and manner of speaking*

"Nothing really specific, but the political situation isn't the most stable, and there has been an increase in acticity in all military complexes that we know of."

*The first person continues*

"Well, they certainly seem to know something we don't. Are we going to keep in this course of action or are we going to do something real about it?"

*The third person in the room answers, after a good deal of thought*

"Yes, we need to do something about it. First things first. We'll have to see if Getulio will be 'amenable' and step down, or if he'll have to, regrettably, be forcefully removed. Secondly... if push comes to shove, we might need to buy armaments instead of making them. And for that we'll need bargaining chips. Plenty of bargaining chips. We might need to...", at this point the figure looks purposefully at the military friend in the room, "...expand."

*The military figure nods and picks up the phone to make some very important calls.*

Chief of the General Staff General Ludwick Beck, looked over the assembled senior officers, representing the senior elements of the Wehrmacht.

"Gentlemen" he began "You know why we have assembled here. Though it pains me to admit it, this great Reich is on a course for disaster! Hitler is not satisfied with our gains in the Sudetenland, and in his increasing lust for power, intends to invade the rest of Czecho-Slovakia and drag this country into war and ruin! Right now we can see that the British and French are growing weary of their policy of appeasement. It is my belief...no, it is my utter certainty that if Hitler is allowed to continue, we will find ourselves at war with Great Britain and France. A war in which we cannot win!"

"Proposterous!" said an indignant officer "Are you seriously proposing that the Wehrmacht would lose to the French? Or even the British? The French do not have the stomach for a prolonged war, and the British are more likely to just stay on their island! And even if they did come, we would just as easily push them back as the French!"

General Beck stared hard at the man "Do not underestimate the French, and particulary the British. To circumvent the Maginot Line, we will have to go through Dutch territory, and it would be likely that the French Army would be waiting us for there. And I also doubt the Dutch will just let us walk through their territory. And never forget the Royal Navy! The British fleet has always been their greatest strength, and the Kriegsmarine is no match for the Royal Navy! The simple fact is that we are not ready for war."

The officer simply nodded his agreement and sat back down, without another word.

"So what do you plan to do?" said another officer.

"We simply give Hitler an ultimatum" said Beck "He either calls off this foolish invasion, or we all resign. Surely even Hitler would have to listen, if his entire General Staff threatens to resign."

The others just sat quietly, saying nothing.

General Beck looked around the room "Nothing to say? Regardless, we have no choice, it's our only option currently. I expect to see you when we meet with Hitler. Dismissed."

> Roma Capitale, Lazio, Italy
> October 27, 1938
> Estate of Victor Emmanuel

Cesare had been approached, by soldiers and he thought that the Facist party had finally found him and was going to silence him and his movement.

He thought to himself how Radical his ideas were and that he would die a martyr and through his death his ideas would prosper, and so he kept his composure and walked with dignity as he was escorted into a car.

The car rolled out, it was quite nice, a luxury car of Fiat design it seemed. However it felt more like a funeral carriage now.

As the car rolled into the the King's Estate, Cesare began to wonder what he was truly being taken in for, if it had been the Facists he would definitely not be at the Estate of the Royal family for his interrogation and possible execution.

One of the Soldier in the front he now recognized to be part of the Honor Guard, he looked back at Cesare.

"Here, clean yourself up Signor Fidanza, You cannot see the King with that sweat upon your brow." He handed him a cloth to wipe off the sweat that had accumulated unconsciously on his face.

"Grazie." Was all the Cesare said with a slight smile, he was still worried.

He headed up into the Estate following his escort, who was armed with Beretta Modello 38s, the best and latest in Italian Firearms, he could almost feel the bullets impacting his flesh. He needed to think positive, the man had noticed his nervousness, maybe it was a sign this wasn't a death sentence. It was his chance to see the king! To convince him, To convince him that it was time for Italy to rise and become Rome, More than a city; the Kingdom of Italy would be the Roman Empire once more.

It seemed his only obstacle would be if he was to die or not within the next few moments.
The Guards stopped and told Cesare to enter the next room, The King's lounge.
As he stepped in, He saw the king, who though shorter than Cesare, was still Royalty and his presence felt as such.
Cesare bowed, and Victor spoke,"Cesare Fidanza, I have heard about you, and your words."
"You speak to my people, and those who have heard you have listened, you are quite young, and it speaks volumes that you have swayed so many." Victor continued speaking.
"You know that Parties have been banned, by my Prime Minister who I have appointed, of my own judgements, But you seem to see things differently than your King?"

Cesare was scared,"Signore, My King, I have nothing against you, Italy respects you and your power We...We just want to see our King not be fooled by Benito and his plans."

Victor raised an eyebrow,"Go on, I have only heard of you speaking prowess but not the context of your words, Convince me like you have convince many of my citizens."
With that they both took a seat, and Cesare began to paint his picture of a New Roman Empire, to paint it so vividly that it was almost tangible, his words continued to define this image, and the Victor Emmanuel the Third sat and listened.

>Brescia, Kingdom of Italy
> October 28, 1938

Within the Headquarters of the Italian Arms Manufacturer Beretta, there was a meeting, between Military officials and Company representatives of the Arms manufacturers.
It seemed the discussion had already begun, a Military official was speaking.

"...We can't equip our men properly with what we have, And Mussolini is possibly pushing for an invasion of Egypt. What we need is to get our men properly equipped, but We don't have the money." He finished.
"Well We have been selling arms to the Japanese, only what we could afford to sell, our Carcano Rifles." The Weapon Manufacturer said.

"The Carcano is also what we are supplying our Forces with, but it is not an effective gun for the opposition we face. We want a better gun developed, something more reliable for our forces than the Carcano." The Military Officer replied.

"We know, We have already developed a better round, but making the rifle has proven expensive, with most others already having better guns, We cannot afford to start producing a new gun...Our only Market would be here and so We would not have an appropriate profits..." The representative said.

There was a moment of Silence, They were left thinking, The military official then thought about the Berreta guns, and the Modello 38.

"Well then sell other things to compensate, The Modello 38 is quite popular for the troops, and our allies would be more than happy to purchase them from us, and I am sure they would pay top dollar for its quality, Your profits from that could fund the new Rifles we desperately need."

Then the Beretta Representative spoke,"But we currently have contracts with you, how can we get other buyers, while we are still fulfilling contracts to the Italian Army....But...I think I do see a point there, if we open it up to our allies, we can compete with their companies, and secure more jobs."

"We need their investments then it seems, also We should see about the Japanese buying as well, I have no doubt they would want it as much as the Germans do, and the income would mean more production and more jobs, More Jobs means we can equip our soldiers, and Italy needs this, especially while we are establishing our territory in Africa." The Official ended.

They were all in agreement it seemed, the Companies saw Profit, and the Military officials saw a chance to improve their forces.
Arrangements were made and the would see about allowing German Forces to Purchase the Modello 38s as well as the Japanese, who they would be sure to continue selling Carcanos as well so they could focus on developing a new Rifle.

"So, has Vargas 'agreed' to step down or not?"

"Yes, we'll be 'shelving' him in some sort of tourist paradise in an out of the way place. It was either that or flat out disposing of him. Even his close family will be relocated."

"Excellent. Now, on to more concrete topics...how go our Railway efforts?"

"They're at the very start but picking up steam. We'll definitely be able to build a national, serious railway system."

"Well, well. That'll certainly help in the months to come, yes. And our efforts regarding Venezuela?"

"That's a much more cloudy topic. We are working towards replacing their highest echelons of government with officials that would either be puppets or outrightly ask us to annex them but... the results are not a certain thing yet. An invasion is not totally off the table by any means."

"Hmmm...troubling, but not entirely unexpected. But do keep trying, their oil reserves will put us in a much better negotiating position, not to mention the benefits towards getting our industry up to speed."

"Yes, President. I'll get to it."

>Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Tokyo, Japan
>October 29, 1938

A group of lead engineers sat on the ground around a wooden table, to discuss the plans for their department's next tank; the Akatsuki Type I. Since this was their lunch break, they each brought a bento from the cafeteria to eat while they talked. Which generally wasn't good table manners, but this was anything but a traditional lunch.

"Well, any ideas?" One of the men asked

"Senba, it hasn't even been a week since we started on this project. Command tells us that our tanks are 'laughably inferior' to Western tanks, and orders us to 'make a few like them'; but we haven't the slightest idea how to begin on doing that." Another man said with a sigh, taking a bit of green wasabi in his bento with his sashimi before eating it

"Oi, couldn't we just base it off of the Chi-He for now, add a few ideas we come up with, and wait until Command asks the Germans for those tanks like they said they would? It'd be real easy to incorporate it into our design at such an early stage." Another man asked

"Well, that'd be the easy way out; but I still think we should put a little innovation into this machine. I mean, not just into how the tank works; but also into reliability, ease of production and maintenance, and durability." The first man, Senba, said, "That engineer, Chawla; he's got a few good ideas on how to make this thing easier to produce."

One man in the room scoffed at the mention of Chawla, "That filthy gaijin? If we give him a role in this, what's to stop-"

"Chawla is Indian, Kusakabe. He may be a gaijin, but he's not a westerner or a Chinese!" The second man said angrily, "The Japanese race may be superior, but that doesn't mean we should look down on all other races, especially oppressed races like the Indians, as filth!"

The sound of a chopstick banging loudly against a cup prevented Kusakabe from angrily replying. "Hai hai, that's enough. Chawla has a few legitimately good ideas, and I think it's high time we stopped overlooking him just because he's a gaijin."

Kusakabe seemed unsettled by that, and Senba made a note to petition the higher ups to transfer the man to another division; he was only going to impede their progress if he kept this up. The meeting/lunch then went on, with various sides discussing their ideas. Most ideas were shot down for being too expensive, as the Japanese armor industry still was not to the level of Western ones, but some ideas would eventually make it into the final draft.

General Beck silently finished packing his belongings, feeling embittered and betrayed. It had been nine days since the mass resignation was supposed to take place, and when the day had come, Beck had resigned alone. None of the other senior officers had followed his lead, instead they had let themselves be swayed by Hitler to support Fall Grun, the planned invasion of Czecho-Slovakia. Even worse, Hitler had persuaded Beck to keep his resignation a secret, being promised a major field command. Instead he had been put on the retired list, and he had been duped by Hitler.

As Beck made his way home, he lamented on Germany's ever spiralling descent into disaster. He had supported Hitler and his belief that Germany needed Lebensraum, and had believed that Hitler was simply being misguided by incompetent military advisors...Beck had tried to reason with Hitler. But now Beck realized his mistake, that Hitler himself was the driving force behind this potential disaster, and that it was Hitler himself that was truly leading Germany to it's doom. Beck still believed that Germany needed Lebensraum...and could still win a European war, when they were ready, but not now. There was no choice left now though, as a patriotic German Beck refused to simply sit back and watch his beloved country come to ruin. It was clear...for the good of Germany, he would have to remove Hitler and the Nazi Party, and if he had to he would do it by force.
I'm back people...

>Over the Bay of Biscay

Flight Lieutenant Oliver Chadwick brought his Supermarine Spitfire Mk I in over the Bay, moving through some clouds before checking on his wing-man, Perry, who was off to his right. He activated his wireless.

"We'll come in over the coast then head for home, nothing fancy," his squadron was based out of Southern France, doing air testing for the new Spitfire with the French Air Force.

"Roger Red One," came the acknowledgement. Perry was a good pilot, his dad was one of the RFC chaps from the last war shot down six hun kites. Chadwick reckoned than they would both have a chance to best that score before long. They had already had a close call once or twice. First they had been intercepted by two Italian planes, flying missions for Franco's troops, then later they had almost flown into a Soviet wing of bombers.

"Red One, two bandits, ten o'clock high!" Perry's frantic call roused Chadwick from his thoughts. Two planes were moving to intercept them, as they came nearer Chadwick could clearly see the air force they flew for.

Germans! Two BF-109s, part of the Legion Condor, the fascist assistance force to General Franco. Chadwick brought his plane up to intercept them in kind. He moved up and around, to get behind one of the Jerry crates. The Jerry pilot, playing along, dived to the side to evade, but he couldn't out turn the new Spitfire and Chadwick kept pace with him. They weaved for a while before, finally, Chadwick drew a bead on his opponent. ahd this been a real battle, the Jerry would be burning now.

You're done mate! He thought as he flew past the Jerry pilot. He could see the man clearly, brief eye contact, before flying away. This was common amongst the squadrons around the Bay, who regularly patrolled past each other. However he couldn't shake the feeling the Germans were getting more than fun out of these little chases, they were scoping the English pilots, well, two could play that game. And now they had seen the new Spitfire, thought Chadwick as he headed for home, wondering what the German would make of it.
...scum.
