I say the latter, though I'd like to know what Ragez thinks of all this.
The latter is good, I suppose.

Are we almost done with the war now? Because at this point, I support a full reboot.

I actually just wanna finish it now. once your war is done I will start the invasion of New Israel, just to get this excrement done.

Also update, Crane is not coming back to any of the games. Life takes precedence, he just doesn't have time. I hope maybe one day he decides to join one of our games again.

Sounds good. Sad to hear that Crane won't return, but I completely understand.

Don't worry. Once that final battle finishes I'm jumping us forward anywhere between 5-15 years so we can start with a fresher slate for the War between nations

Sounds good, though to be honest if we go through another week or two of nothing happening I might have to ask Ragez to jump forward 2 years and summarize the invasions so we can get to the final battle.

Sad to hear about Crane, but life does take precedence. Hopefully in the future he'll find some more time to jump back in.

Shet. So Ragez, it seems Serrano will get a royal smacking in his bitch face, congratulations.

Also, as for the time skipping part, I would have suggested a skip of 20 years from the beginning.

Keep calm and move along.

Chaos?

You mean demonic corruption. They don't call it chaos here. but that may be what everyone else will call it eventually.

Chaos is a greek term anyway, it makes sense that she calls it that.

I remember learning all about that during my English class. My teacher had a very interesting way of teaching, he was a bible thumper, but his class was way fun, and he taught me a lot of things beyond how to write well.

It was an interesting class to say the least, and we covered so many different mythologies and then onto more modern texts as we went on.

So given that we have reopened discussion on how we can revive and improve Empires. I have decided to bump this post as to not flood the Frontiers OT.

So first things first, We need to determine what we liked about Empires, What was good in theory, but needed fixing, and what should be dropped altogether.

Also on the table is how we would incorporate Dice into the game, should we want to go that route.

Everything we already did can be dropped.

Restart and re-imagine our empires. Have less power creep, and less E-dick comparisons. Make this primarily a social experience, and build;d a universe that can be easily used for a individual based RP. Also not creating 50 million characters.

Conflict between empires should be Civil OOC,  and reasonable in context. This game was great for world building and setting up a science fantasy universe. It got excrementty when it got competitive, as it was not designed to be competitive. This could be story based, but have some limits in dick comparisons.

This is what I found as well. The game was great for world building and creating a Science Fantasy Universe, but as soon as we had to go at each other competitively was when we opened up the arguments. I personally found that some of the best conflict was when we came to a decision on how a particular battle or event was going to go ahead of time, mainly because we were then setting up the journey for how we got there.

The 50 Million characters is also a good example. Of course we will all have our minimum characters in the form of our leaders, our military's and particular side stories used to push forward the overall universe, and maybe we could end up breaking the game into several different ones. We have the main thread for mainline universe stuff, and then we break out into separate threads whenever we want to explore a particular aspect more closely.

Say I have an event going on in AIocity, I could create a new thread which snapshots that point in time for that event. Or say we want to do a military spec-ops mission in the Independent States, we would beak out for that mission. This way we would have more focus, while allowing us to push forward the universe while not having to take so long to go through each in-game year.

Let me extrapolate on that. More than just making multi-threads for every miniscule thing, we have designated threads, Basically RPs within the RP. THe main Empires game sets the stage in terms of content available and the political situation, and when the need arises we make a side story for everyone to participate in. Whether it is some from a specific faction, or multi-faction etc. Its like writing lord of the rings while taking breaks and making a side plot that can go on and do its own thing within that universe, have its own conclusion etc. It would also leave less clutter in the Universe building thread, and allow for character based rps to occur. I would deem it a good idea to make a thread for just a small event, but a side plot instead. The plot should have enough depth to make a good story, and like you said, should be planned out.

So just to ensure I have this correctly, you're saying that we should have the Main Universe Thread to advance the overall universe

And then instead of splitting up every other small story line into its own thread, we would instead have larger "faction" or "themed" threads which would encompass side stories. So we would have a generic "AIocity thread" or a generic "Independent Systems" thread which would encompass side stories which go on within those areas?

And then we would have smaller threads which encompass single events on a case by case basis as needed?

If that's the case, I like the idea as it would help out severely with the problem of focus within the game while also encouraging us to expand the universe horizontally, instead of the linear approach we do in the main thread. It would also solve the chaoticness of trying to find the correct posts within the sea of content

I can see the Independent systems having its own thread since it has its own political structure and intrigue. However I did not mean making threads for small things. Case by case yes, but nothing too small. By small I mean character interactions with little actual story, or singular battles or some sort of mission. FOr the case by case I would mean something like forming a special team that takes specialists from each Empire to form a task force to take down some vague threat, and it takes many missions, story developement, character developement, drama, etc. It has to be quite significant to warrant a thread.

Wars are impersonal, so the main thread would handle that, unless the side plot was a squad of soldiers on the ground and their specific story and plot in this campaign which would take a while to do, drama, action, many missions and goals, with an end goal of stopping/winning the war with a decisive victory of eliminating a key figure/big bad guy.

However say a few Independent system characters meet, that doesn't warrant its own thread, just be part of the independent systems thread. I don't see AIocity warranting its own thread unless all the empires were somehow connected to it, like the independent systems, its also strictly apart your empire. THe only thing I see being good for AIocity having its own thread is if lets say the Grimm manage to break into the Unani Interstellar network and begin to ravage accross it like an uncontained wildfire and the players take on personas of AI characters in this situation to fight back/survive and find a way to stop the Grimm infiltration etc.

I really mean these thread being their own story and plot, their own RP that is significant enough to warrant a thread. These threads could be gmed by whoever comes up with the idea, however they would need to propose the idea first before creating it, need to actually have interest and people willing to participate and work within the limits of this story.

Having to have approval first would keep it from getting out of hand, and the multi-threads would keep interest in the overall universe, and be more manageable. So while people might decide to take a break from Empires, they can participate in a small side story till they get interest in the main game again. Keeps it fresh, organized, and cohesive as a whole.

It's cool that you guys want to start this back up, especially if you don't really like how the Void is being played now and want to be more character focused. But don't count on me being part of this game, I might drop by with a occasional character but I really enjoy the Empire building in the Void and I don't really have the time or interest to commit to Empires 2.0.

I am not abandoning the Void. (Still have to finish my sheet). I fully intend to play it and mess around with my new Civ I made. However I feel EMpires needs a reboot to be a better game than it was previously, also allow for a more social experience. And WHen I am competitive, go over to the Void and declare some war, and see if the RNG gods are in my favor or not.

Its just to give a character based RP as you said, so that people can play and not be stressed about their peeps dying unless they set it up to happen.
