Battlefield 3 - Steam release even more distant
« on: July 18, 2011, 09:14:06 PM »
[float=left][attach=1][/float]It seems now that Battlefield 3 won't come to Steam at all.

Apparently Gamestop met with the financial reserach firm Baird.
It is claimed in the resulting report:
"The upcoming EA title Battlefield 3 will be sold as a download through GameStop, but not through Steam."

It is a second hand claim from Baird, and Gamestop is gearing up to compete with Steam, so it can be taken with a grain of salt. But it sure does look like one more nail on the coffin.

Via Shacknews and Develop.

He hates Steam and everything Valve has ever done, I believe.  As well as most shooters.

That's the way he is Mukora.

Anyway, I think I'll buy Battlefield 3 as a physical copy since no way in nine circles of hell I'll buy it in digital using that abomination called Origin.

Yeah... I'd claim EA wouldn't be that stupid, but I'd die from laughing too hard.

Oh brother, you're right. Da gently-carress!

I hazard a guess that ME2 isn't too far behind. And neither ME1.

Supposedly it's because the new DLC circumvents Steams system. I don't think any Mass Effect DLC does so, so it should be safe.

You would think EA would know about this prior. Was probably a get-as-many-people-as-you-can-to-buy-the-game-on-steam-before-we-release-dlc move to get people who don't like physical copies onboard and didn't use origin.

All of the DLCs sold at Bioware circumvent steam's system. They're sold and distributed outside of the steam channel. Steam doesn't know zip about whatever ME2, or DAII DLCs you have installed.

The game patches were indeed being handled by steam, but that didn't stop DAII being axed.

So this doesnt mean I have to go and transfer all of my keys to EA: Origin does it?
