Neutron Star    Newborn    Extreme Radiation
11RP   Gas Planet   T2   No Life

The ASEF arrived at the edge of a neutron star system, after a journey of only six days, arriving as scheduled. Like the blackhole system, there was only a standard gas giant and barren moon orbiting the neutron star. The gas giant had significant amounts of helium-3, possibly making it a worthwhile investment. The moon on the other hand was barren, with a few deposits of light metals, mostly aluminum as well as bacteria colonies that had grown highly resistant to the bursts of extreme radiation from the neutron star's pulses.

Upon arriving in system, the Scientists spent some time categorizing the Bacteria for later study while the ship was refueling. Once they were done, they jumped to the next system

White Giant    Newborn    Low Radiation
0RP   Blackhole   Uninhabitable   No Life
   6RP   Moon   T4   Simple Life

The ASEF arrived at a white giant system, which had but one single habitable moon inhabiting it...as well as a rogue blackhole devouring the star. Throughout the system was the debris of planetary bodies, destroyed as they got in the blackhole's path. Now it seemed the rogue singularity had come close enough to begin dismantling the star, as a stream of plasma was seen being sucked in to a well of infinite black. Miraculously enough the moon was intact, for now, as it lay on the other side of the star. But it's fate was sealed, as the proximity of the blackhole was causing extreme atmospheric disturbance, wreaking havoc and destruction on the surface below. Some simple rodent-like and reptilian lifeforms were detected, but it wasn't hard to imagine there were more complex lifeforms before the calamity. The moon was covered in dark, raging thunderstorms as constant lightning strikes flashed in the atmosphere, causing large uncontrollable firestorms below.

Elsewhere however...the ASEF picked up radio signals from deep space again, sounding similar to what they had picked up before. This time however there was screech or two, but otherwise was familiar.

The scientific adviser thought for a moment, before saying "In the long-term absolutely, in a few centuries this entire system will be gone. In the short-term however...well the blackhole certainly has a significant gravitational influence. I would advise staying away from the bodies closest to it, the time dilation would be too great. I would imagine the other worlds would suffer some mild atmospheric interference, as well as a sense of time dilation the closer you get. Over time the colonists will begin to experience time at a gradually increased rate. I would say two centuries before the blackhole has a severe impact on them. Perhaps we should hold off on full-scale colonization."
"Agreed." Said captain Beyla. "Full scale colonization might be risky with so little hope for long term profit, but I do think that in time planets of this system will be colonized by our empire, they're simply too rich for a black hole to devour them all."

The Stargazer remained in the system for a while longer, scanning the many colonizable bodies before jumping away.

Blackhole    Midlife    Low Radiation
7RP   Gas Planet   T1   No Life
   9RP   Moon   T4   Single Cellular

10RP   Asteroid Belt   T3   No Life
20RP   Gas Cloud   Uninhabitable   No Life
   5RP   Rings   T1   No Life

In its travels to the new system, the Stargazer hit an unexpected FTL stream doubling its speed. In the instant this occured, a type of turbulence could be felt with the ship shaking moderately before setting into the new speed for a rather uneventful flight.

Upon arriving in system, the first thing the crew realized was that it was dark. Pitch Black with the nearest signs of light being several stars away. The crew felt as if they overshot their target because of the speed boost and landed in the void, but after another moment a stream of information began to flow into the computer systems. They were in the system alright, but instead of a star in the center, there was a massive blackhole devouring the system. It was likely the star simply ran out of fuel and this was the end result in a desperate bid to stay 'alive'.

The system itself was relatively low in resources compared to what they had found earlier. The system contained a single Gas Giant filled with hydrogen with a moon which in earlier in life would have been perfect for life, but now was filled with single cellular lifeforms. In an odd twist of things though, that moon had also contained a much smaller moon orbiting it. This moon, roughly a quarter in size was filled with small insects and mammals which by now had adapted to the cold darkness of the system.

Further out in the system was the asteroid belt, devoid of life and filled with rings of rock and gas.

This system could have been something if it was found earlier, but as it stood now it was simply empty, waiting for entropy to set in place

Seeing the system in the shape it was in was quite a sight to behold. The crew made sure to take screenshots of the images on the displays while categorizing the data with the rest they had discovered on black holes for later study. The system itself was quite somber.  with the Sun being only a newborn and the Moon containing simple lifeforms which would soon come to a violent end in the hash hellstorms of the blackhole which would fade out of existence as soon as it ran out of material to eat. The Ki'Jan weren't religious, but if they were they would have felt the need to say a prayer to the lifeforms.

When the radio signals came into play, the crew immediately switched focus. "Replay the message" Aelia ordered as the crew worked to do so. "Any chances this could be from the blackhole emitting electromagnetic waves in the spectrum of our comms systems?" she asked before being responded by the Sciences Officer.

"It's certainly possible, although doubtful as these are coming from out of system. I would imagine it could be from a solar storm brewing elsewhere in the galaxy, but we would need to run further tests. We are collecting information now". Aelia nodded, and the crew stayed put in the system for several days to collect the information they needed to make an accurate ruling later.

Once they were done, the ship jumped system again

Hex: 2, 0     Total Resources: 0

The ASEF arrived after six days into complete darkness, the light from distant stars too distant to have any effect. It would appear they had overshot their target, arriving at the void in between stars. The data that came back...or rather the lack of data, seemed to confirm it. No Ki'Jan had ever been to the void before, nor had there been any study on it, they were truly in completely unknown territory. It was...disconcerting, the deep black seemed to call to them...and sheer loneliness and emptiness seemed to envelop them. It almost seemed as though it were whispering to them...beckoning to them...

Just then something unexpected happened...they picked up the signatures of a ship, dead and with no signs of power or life but a ship in the void.

Just then something unexpected happened...they picked up the signatures of a ship, dead and with no signs of power or life but a ship in the void.

Before finding the ship, the crew was just about to readjust their trajectory to get out of the unease they had felt themselves run into. But immediately upon seeing the ship the crew had stopped everything they were working on to look in awe.

"Is that one of ours?" one of the scanners crew spoke up with the captain responding "There is nothing on the record of us ever going this far out." A member of the engineering crew then spoke up. "It definitely doesn't look like ours. The design doesn't have any considerations for flooding. Readings aren't picking it up as completely solid either, something that would happen if it was filled with water."

Everyone looked to the captain. "Lets move in for a closer look. Pilots, bring us up to the ship. Have the signal at the ready for an emergency FTL Jump if need be though.

"Status!" barked the Captain as the crew struggled to contain the damage. After hearing the damage report and stabilizing the ship, they quickly but cautiously surveyed the system, acutely aware they needed to head home. After surveying the system, the Captain ordered the jump back to Epsilon Eridani for repairs. The Second Wave Colonization Initiative for now would be put on hold.

>>>1 month later

After a month of repairs and refit, the SS Enterprise was once again fit for deployment and jumped again, resuming the Second Wave Colonization Initiative.

As the SS Enterprise arrived in system, the ship clipped the side of an asteroid, denting the hull and shaking the ship severely but providing no punctures. The crew would have to explain that one to high command, but for now they would have to make the best of it

In the system was a White Giant which looked to be a the end of its life. Signals were showing it had at most a couple of centuries to live if nothing were to happen to it. At which point it would transform into a black hole which would begin to devour the system. That wouldn't be the end of things though, as the system was in great luck with their being a second sub star. Whilst not as large as the white giant, it was a sizable enough that once the first star blew out, temperature ranges would shift dramatically and open up habitable regions in places where the planets actually were. Aside from this though, the system was moderate in resources. With rings and moons full of iron, gold and aluminum and gas giants full of hydrogen.

In the far out corner of the system there was a single small planet, if you could call it that. It had a ring of rock and looked to be artificial with holes going completely through it at random points. The holes filled with a type of scaffolding and metal bars sticking out at odd angles. It looked to be a planet in development, although there were no readings of life nor artificial elements such as electricity. It was simply there, and looked to have taken a beating from the orbiting rings which collided with the small world.

While the Kaveni knew that this system wasn't as unbelievably rich as the previously discovered systems Captain Beyla certainly knew that a system as this would have its uses. However a nagging concern began to grow in the back of Beyla's head, this was the second black hole they've discovered next door to the Kaveni home system..

"One more jump and we've finished our mission" He finally decided.

The Captain glared at navigation, before returning to the matter at hand. The system was a good find, plenty of habitable moons with the entire system being full of economic potential. The artificial planet however...was something else entirely, the first evidence of extraterrestrial life. Whatever had done this was powerful enough to craft entire planets...but it seemed to be abandoned, which was a comfort.

After collecting data on the system, and planting the Coalition Flag on one of the moons and claiming the system, the Enterprise made the next jump.

As the ship moved in closer, they could see that the derelict was pretty beat up, though whether it was from the passage of time or something from its past, it was hard to tell. There were multiple punctures, as well as signs of corrosion, but the superstructure appeared to be stable. It was possible to enter the ship safely, if they wished.

The Stargazer arrived at a main phase white star system uneventfully, with three gas giants, a planet and a number of moons. There were two habitable moons within the system, the first one orbiting the gas giant, facing the star and receiving just enough heat to support simple life. The moon was mostly a tundra, with a thin strip of habitable land around its equator, which was mostly rocky shores constantly swept by freezing rain. Life included some hardy fish species, which thrived in the sub-zero temperature waters. The habitable moon was much more friendly to life, a green and blue backdrop which contained a tropical rainforest, surrounding a large sea which had formed in a crater. The moon was host to multiple complex lifeforms, including a large gorilla-like creature, which had a rhino-like hide with tufts of fur on its head, chest and shoulders. The system itself was economically profitable, with plenty of hydrogen and helium, as well as large deposits of copper, iron, gold and diamond.

Upon arriving in system, the Enterprise came upon a fairly normal system, similar to that of Sol, only with the lack of planetary bodies. The sun almost mimicked Sol in it's readings and orbiting the sun was a single terrestrial planet with a single moon.

The planet had a single Pangaea-esque super continent set up in a ring around the equator, connecting on both sides to create two north-south oceans with lakes and rivers in-between connecting them. On the planet was a wide assortment of mountain ranges, forests and complex life forms which seemed to feed off of each other in harmony.

On the moon was even more interesting. It too held a wide assortment of forests and wildlife, although where it lacked in size, it made up for in quality, being more resource rich than the planet with the only exception being an overall lack of water compared to the planet.

While that was happening, the command crew began to do preliminary scans of the interior of the ship utilizing a combination of sonar and high frequency electromagnetic waves.

Once the soldiers were ready, they boarded a shuttle which flew to an entrance on the ship.

As the marines entered the ship, the preliminary interior scans revealed something interesting. Within the ship was a single, low-level power signature, which had been missed at first because they had just done a basic sweep of the exterior and basic functions. This power signature however was independent of the ship's long dead power supply, which explained some things, but also raised other questions. The marines weren't far from it, it was a small ship after all.

Looking at their data, the squad began to move. "You know the drill. Orders are to do a sweep of the ship for hostiles or anything of value." The commander switching to comms back to the Captain. "Ma'am. Now that we are on the ground, we have detected a basic power signature at coordinates 0.32, 0.77, 0.23. We will make our way there and determine its cause." "Noted, Commander. Keep us posted."

The Commander nodded, before switching channels. "We're good to go. Lets move."

The marines moved quickly and cautiously, but whatever inhabited this ship was long gone. It was also completely dark, the only illumination being their lights and NV gear. Eventually they made their way to what appeared to be a storage room, with various containers both empty and partially filled with unknown items.

In the back of the room however, they saw what the signature was...it was wrong. It was clown sex, just so much clown sex. It was a clown orgy, the marines didn't even think it was possible for a creature to produce so much semen, but in front of their eyes they were proven wrong.

In the back of the room the marines saw what appeared to be a cryogenic freezer, running on its own power supply. It was sealed shut, but it looked like it could be opened...

With the ship cleared, the soldiers reported back to the ASEF. "Derelict ship is clear Captain. We are currently standing at the source of the power generation and it appears we have come across what looks to be a cryogenic freezer. You should be able to pull up the visuals on your view port".

The captain nodded as she pulled up the video feed and a couple scientists and engineers huddled around the monitor. "We'll be sending over a small team of scientists to assess the situation in person.  Stay put."

Some time passed as the shuttle was sent back to the main ship to pick up the additional crew which consisted of two scientists, two engineers and another soldier whom made their way to the cryogenic pod and began to assess it once they arrived. The scientists were looking to see if they could get any information into the cryogenic pods contents while the engineers were looking to see if it would be possible to disconnect the pod for transport to the main ship without killing or awaking whatever was inside

The engineers had the easier time of it, as the pod seemed built to be easily moved, with just a few cables that needed to be unplugged. The scientist's however were having a harder time, as there was little more than a few buttons, and some holographic alien writing that they couldn't discern.
