Show off your country
« on: February 28, 2012, 06:16:42 PM »
I have realized that I see the world as "Sweden, tourist resorts, and places you don't want to go", and I want to change that. I want to see the countries you live in and how you all see them. ^-^ I want to know more of the world, and I think some of us here do as well.

Besides, a big part of knowing someone is knowing their home ;)

I found a video that I think perfectly show Sweden as it is, or at least as I see it. That is, if you count out the racism and ridiculous immigration laws. If you have any questions, I'm happy to answer them :D
Play

Videos, pictures, texts, if there is anything that you think sums up your country (or if it's a big country, the part you live in), may it be one or several things, please post them here if you like. Let us make the world more than a map on the table!

Why not post this on TZF Scrapbook? Because there would never really be anything of it, everyone would just move on to other things.
And yes, I'm in a good mood today. :)

Keep calm and move along.

One thing I don't like about Sweden is some of its laws. It's basically illegal to be patriotic, since it's seen as racist. Some schools aren't allowed to jack up the flag or sing our national anthem even on our national day, and kids in school aren't allowed to wear the Swedish flag on their clothes since it's "racist". But it's okay for immigrants to show off their country's flag. A friend of mine got banned from Facebook for racism when he made a Swedish flag out of flowers in Farmville.

I was in a good mood earlier, but then I thought of this and my happy disappeared.

Keep calm and move along.

America is quite and awesome place. Every state has its own perks. I have to say I love the more natural landmarks than anything else.

The Grand Canyon is a must see, definitely worthy of anyone's bucket list, and I have to say I was in total awe when I went to Yosemite National Park. My favorite part of the park had to be.....well everything, though I truly loved seeing the Giant Sequoia Grove. Pictures don't compare to seeing them in person.

As for you Tobbs that is quite a sad policy your country has. It seems to be an appeaser policy, probably to avoid terrorism or something.

If it's supposed to avoid terrorism, it's not doing a very good job. About a year ago, we had a suicide bombing in Stockholm. Luckily the bomber was a moron and accidentally set off one of the bombs when alone in an alley. What this policy does is give way for little nazi groups like the Sweden Democrats. But I really think immigrants should adapt when coming to Sweden instead of the other way around.

Ah, but I still love you, Sweden.

Also, I've never heard of Yosemite park. What's so special about it?

Keep calm and move along.

Hmm...I'll look through youtube to see if there's any good clips about my country. Aside from that, it's google images...

The more obvious ones:

And a couple that aren't usually the main selling points:

Maybe more to come in the future.

The Canadian Forces (and most NATO nations plus Russia and China too) are like that as well. I would say in Canada, Britain, Australia, New Zealand and Europe's case, it's a neccessity considering our armed forces are profossional small armies. Though strangely enough the RCMP have stricter physical standard requirements than the CF...

Sweden don't have much of a military when it comes to size, mainly since we don't need it; Sweden hasn't officially been at war since 1812. But we still have among the most advanced military forces in the world...

Been to both of those places in Venice. It was a very good trip. One I'd gladly do again.

Sweden maintains a large military due to their close proximity to the soviet union (former)
