It'd have been even more literal if they had stuffed a piece of solid brick in there instead of cement. :D

I'm wondering if it's actually cheaper for them to manufacture that elaborate dummy coil than just use a real one. They had to build or buy the case, mix and set cement, and assemble the thing. Is magnet wire really that expensive these days?

Obviously the little bit of concrete is cheaper than the copper wire, otherwise they wouldn't do it. Both are pretty expensive, but I'd say copper definitely costs more.
