Steam hacked, Valve investigating possible CC theft
« on: November 10, 2011, 11:31:48 PM »
Steam forums got defaced a few days ago.  Valve just sent out an e-mail (not everyone has received it yet) advising people to change their passwords and to keep an eye on their CC details.  There is no confirmation that the encrypted databases have been stolen or that the encryption on them has been compromised but better safe than sorry right now.  So go change your passwords.  You can do this easiest through steam itself in the settings screen.

I also personally recommend using steam guard as well.  It's a little more irritating when you try to access your account from a new location but it gives you a layer of security against people logging into your account.

See, and this is how you deal with this kind of news. Honestly, It took Sony a few weeks to tell people what happened.

And then they didn't even tell us what went on for a while.

I don't remember correctly, but I don't recall any of Sony's sites being defaced like the Steam forum was. It was in everyone's faces. Acting like Sony did in that occasion would throw a lot of mud on Valve's reputation.
