How To Use TexMod in Mass Effect 2
TexMod is a very cool program that lets you replace textures in any Direct3D application, as long as the texture you're using was made specifically for that application. Obviously I use it for Mass Effect 2...
The only downside is that if you are using a setup that doesn't have PhysX like I am, there will be a CPU bottleneck in some applications, including ME2. This may drastically drop your framerate into the unplayable range sometimes. If this happens, just don't use TexMod for the things that make the game unplayable unless you're silly like me and don't mind getting 4 fps during Tali's trial, or any similarly strenuous part of another game.
Anyway, here's how you do it:Step 1:
Download and unzip TexMod. It can be found here
. It will run fine out of whatever folder you download it to.IMPORTANT:
If you are using the Steam version of Mass Effect 2, it actually matters where you put the files! Follow these sub-steps (taken from social.bioware.com)1.A:
Move TexMod to the Binaries folder.1.B:
Rename MassEffect2.exe to MassEffect2Bak.exe.1.C:
Rename Texmod.exe to MassEffect2.exeStep 2
: Run Texmod.exeStep 3:
Select the main executable file for the game you're using (in my case, UT3.exe, which is normally called MassEffect2.exe but I renamed it so that I could force AA and AF with my ATi GPU)Step 4:
Click on the yellow folder icon in the middle and select a .tpf (TexMod Package File) to use. You can use as many as you want.Step 5
: Click "Run" and enjoy!
That's it! Good luck and happy playing!~
